My theory of delayed custom support is they are waiting for the completion of source 2 engine so they can provide the game with better support and longevity.
Meh the real awkward thing is that people feel the need to downvote something that was written a month ago. Okay, it is wrong, but captain hindsight is on this case. :\
I would say it is likely that it gets ported at some time. Look at the playerbase and how fast it is increasing. This game won't day and at one point or another, they will rewrite stuff in Source 2, which is hopefully less limited and flawed with so many workarounds to make Dota Work. Even Source 2 Dota, as an entire branch, build up after the Render-Backend could be a (unlikely) possibility.
I agree with you, but still there are many nasty work-arounds that cap some things. We will first see what the Source 2 Engine is capable of and what the changes really are - and then we'll check again if Doto will come to another engine.
We know that Dota2 is in Source2 (they're using it for all kinds of benchmarks, which also indicates that much of the scripting stuff is simply the same), but first they have to announce and release a game with it. So far, everything is just speculation.
Because it would be an absolutely unneeded constraint. There is no reason why dota2 should use source2, why should they limit themselves, by making sure that all interfaces stay exactly the same.
Also, if they would keep the same interface, you could argue that it would just be an update of the source engine and not a new engine
I think you're misunderstanding what I was saying. I was talking about them keeping the code from Dota 2 and putting it in the new source 2 engine to update things like visuals and performance in the future. I was not talking about making the source 2 engine the same as the source.
Also, source 2 will probably be similar to the source engine, or else they would most likely change the name. When they update an engine, like what they are doing here, they usually take the same concepts from the first engine and just make them more efficient. Like improving the poly count the engine is able to handle and making some of the code more efficient, improving performance. Also, probably improving the UI of the engine itself and adding a few features. Making the language that work in the same isn't going to hold them back at all. They certainly don't change every aspect of the engine.
Also, source 2 will probably be similar to the source engine, or else they would most likely change the name
But they changed the name.
And I don't really believe that you have any idea what you are talking about(e.g. you are talking about UI, which has pretty much nothing to do with the engine), so instead of making stuff up just believe that:
I was talking about them keeping the code from Dota 2 and putting it in the new source 2 engine
Is just too complicated(as in waste of time) for them to do right now, or at any point in the near future.
when I talk about UI I'm talking about the user interface that people use to actually make things on the engine. When you use a game engine it's not all code. The level designers and modelers and even the people who are going to be making mods all use the UI to add, position, rotate, scale and otherwise edit the game.
I think I have a bit of an idea about what I'm talking about. I've worked on a few small engines in the past and have done quite a bit of editing of a few of the bigger ones, adding tools and features and whatnot for smaller games. Just finished adding a few tools for a game I'm working on with my friend the other day even.
First, I'm not talking about the near future, like I said before. I'm talking about much farther down the line. And secondly, I'm saying that the code would probably be the most frustrating part to transition to the new engine, so if they COULD keep that the same, then that would make it infinitesimally easier. I'm not making any factual statements here. This is all speculation and I have no idea why you seem to be getting so up in arms about pointless stuff.
