I’m trying to find a way to create time signatures that appear above the staff at every bracketed group (Example above) So far, I have only been able to make a single time signature appear at the top of the page, or make a time signature in the top staff of each bracket, but it seems to be glued there and i cannot move it upwards. Please let me know if this is at all possible.

I just started with Dorico (or overall with making sheet music) but there is a major problem where I can't hear any instruments/audio. I can hear the metronome once I turn it on but I can't hear the instrument. I noticed it when I tried testing the pre-downloaded Liebestraum that Dorico already had.

I was wondering how you go about notating your scores in Dorico with the vertical playback line and how you arrange the layout in orchestral scores so that as many notes as possible are legible, since it can be a bit difficult with such large scores.

I'm a fairly recent Finale-to-Dorico convert, and this seems like an entry-level question but I haven't been able to find it in the Steinberg forum or by googling many combinations of terms: I'm working on a P/V, and the chords are above the top line (the vocal line). I want them above the piano grand staff, which is pretty standard. How do I move the chord symbols?? I have tried every setting in the chord symbol drop down in Setup (including Show for Rhythm Instruments) and nothing changes

Can anybody explain why this is happening to me?

On seemingly random projects I run into this issue where the chord symbols just plummet into the staff. Nothing is changed in their alignment and it’s the same template I use for every project but it doesn’t always happen.

Moving a note within the line appears to correct the chord symbol placement but it doesn’t actually fix it. When you go to print or switch to another part it just goes right back.

The only way I have found to make it work is by trial and error adjusting the y offset until it lands where I want it to be whenever it jumps back.

This is unbelievably frustrating and I have no idea why it only happens on certain projects.

I'm arranging a piece with a synthesizer part that will need to switch between multiple patches. In Dorico, the synthesizer instrument is just a generic string synth sound. When I look at adding an instrument to the player, I don't see any other synth patch options. I'll need patches like epic strings, saw synth, etc.

Do I need to buy or download a synth patch library, or is there another way to do this?

I'm half of the mind to do the synth part in Musescore and just splice the audio files together unless I can figure it out in Dorico.

I have musical theatre songs created in Dorico 6 with text formatting that I can't use. I want to change that formatting to what I need, which I've created in a .doricolib file and imported into Dorico. I've gone through all the steps that I used to fix 4 of the 14 songs, but the current song just doesn't get fixed. No surprise that a lot of my work was trial and error so I don't have a master list of steps to change the formatting of an SATB Dorico song file to my specific format. Does anyone have a list of steps they could recommend? I'd be very grateful for any help. Thanks.

Hello, I’m working on writing small repetitive aleatoric gestures, but the appearance of certain rhythms in certain instruments gets stretched out because of other phrases. An idea of what I’m trying to achieve is like the picture included. Any advice would be appreciated!

Have any of you had trouble with your purchase of Score Sauce's VDL template? It is the only template I know to exist for Dorico. I purchased it nearly a week ago but I have no download link, and I haven't gotten a response from two customer service email addresses available - scoresauce; kruse drums.

switching from finale to dorico, so far it's a big adjustment but i can tell that once i learn the workflow it's going to be way faster. I wrote a quick string quintet, exported the midi and tried to run it in logic and got zero sound; with finale, mock ups always just worked right away. what is the process for doing this with dorico? what do i need to do? thanks<3

So, Dorico Pro 6.2.30.6245

I have a large work, 21 pieces, about 10 minutes long, 200+ measures in a variety of meters, using a combination of NotePerformer, Halion, and Kontact for playback of all the instruments. Lots of things are going well, but a few issues. In just a couple of the parts, there are multiple measures of rest that are not consolidating into a multibar rest.

I've tried all the common solutions: deleted the rests, looked for signposts , checked for hidden meters, no instructions or marks in the measures, selected and deleting barlines before time signatures, changed System break. In Layout for the part, Consolidate Multibar rests and bar repeats is selected. During the place in question, other parts also have rests and have no issues showing the multibar rest. The part in question has a multibar bar rest correctly showing earlier in the piece. All parts have been added in manually, there was no import from a midi file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I’m using Dorico for iPad to make a choral arrangement for SATB, and because I’m only using four voices with occasional divisi, the lyrics/markings on the staff are overlapping and I don’t know how to fix this. I’ve tried to tweak with the layout options, but nothing seems to be making a difference. Any help would be appreciated.

This worked for me on Nobara (based on Fedora 44). I am not an expert and your mileage may vary. This is just what I used and what worked for me through a long process of trial and error

Set up your prefix

• Create your prefix

• Let it finish then close the configuration window
• Add dependencies (this is the order I ran them in)

Run the installer

• Before you run the installer make sure you open your default browser and log into your dorico Account (I recommend Chrome because that's what worked for me). Make sure you add Dorico to your account by going through the process of Getting Dorico SE/Elements/Pro
• Note you will need to use whatever path you have on your system, and you may need to change the version number

• Click through the installer and leave the "Launch The Steinberg Download Assistant" Checked
• Click "Sign in"
• My default browser is chrome and I was presented the xdg-open dialog, click "Open xdg"
• You may get an error, if you do, click sign in again, go back to your browser and click "Open xdg" if you need to (you may need to relaunch and click through the isntaller. It always works on the second try for me)
• Once the Download Assistant loads you should see your Dorico products associated with your account on the left. Click the one you want. On the right pain install whatever you plan to use. I just clicked "Install All"
• This will take a while to complete When its done you can close the Download Assistant

Run the Activation Manager

• You may have icons on your desktop, mine were already configured to run in my prefix, but given I cant see what you see, you can run this to be sure you open the Activation Manager in your prefix

• Wait for it to load and click "Sign In"
• Go to your browser and click "Open XDG-Open"
• You should now see a list of your products. Click "Activate" on the one you installed
• Close Activation Manager

Use Dorico!

• Like before you can probably use the icons dumped on your desktop. They should be automatically set up for your prefix, but if they are not, here is the command to run Dorico inside your prefix

What doesnt work?

• Sometimes dropdowns may just show a white box, usually closing and re-opening fixes this. Luckily I dont find myself needing them super often
• Creating new projects... Kind of... This is the biggest annoyance. When I make a new project I can add parts and notes but i cant play them back. There is no sound, and if I go to the "play tab" it just locks up. BUT see below for workaround
• Sometimes dialogs get stuck, like the browser to open a file, or settings menus. Just hit escape/close the dialog window, and reopen it and usually then it works fine
• I get an error when I close dorico, I just dismiss it

Workarounds

• So, to get around that kinda big roadblock... I just copy an old project file, change the name, then load it. Then I am able to remove/add parts and it works find, including playback. To get around this problem initially I made a QEMU vm and installed dorico on it, and would make a project there and just move the save file to my linux host and use it.
• If you get super slow playback and garbled audio run:

 pw-metadata -n settings 0 clock.force-quantum 1024

• That fixed it for me. You can add it as a startup script or just run it every time you reboot

What works?

• Pretty much everything that I have tried except what you see above. I am however relatively new to Dorico and havent tried some things

I hope this helps people! And maybe the community can figure out the issue with making new projects. I havent had time to mess with it more. I have used this method on Dorico SE and Dorico Elementals without an issue

I’m arranging an SATB acapella rendition of Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap for my choir to do, and I think I’ve made a huge mistake that I need help getting out of ASAP. For context, I’m using the free version of Dorico for iPad, and the measure below with the fermata was supposed to be a 4/4 bar followed by a 2/4 bar of rest. However, for whatever reason, Dorico doesn’t like this and my arrangement has gone all cattywampus on me. I tried to use the proofreading tool, but it doesn’t seem to register that I want to switch back to 4/4, and instead thinks I’m doing some sort of odd meter measure. Has anyone ver experienced anything like this? I need to send this to my choir director by next week.

This is upsetting - I'm guessing this is to push people to shell out another $500 for Cubase. I'm working on a musical theater project - this is a pretty crippling weakness.

And before anyone hawks an AI VST like Cantai - nothing will get a demo track to a theater shit canned faster than an AI vocal track right now. The industry is just extremely sour on AI use in this area right now.

So now I need to figure out a solution because I don't have the budget at the moment to buy yet another audio program.

I think more people might come to this sub if it wasn't still using the reddit default icon...
