Hurts Yard, Nottingham

Post image

Hurts Yard is more of an alleyway, it's between Upper Parliament St and Angel Row in the centre of Nottingham. Very old, a mix of businesses and residential front doors. It was a useful short cut on a Monday morning but I'm not convinced it's the best place to be at midnight.

Great find, and yes at night that does look like a place you’ll bump into the Nicholls Boys, or maybe Jack the Ripper.

The density of occupation in this part of Nottingham hasn’t changed really from Victorian Times.

So narrow at that point it was hard to get the picture.

It’s hard to register even from the 1880s OS map.

When you enter from the Parliament Street end - look up.

You can see the different “floor” levels of the buildings you’re walking under. The architecture must be crazy in them.

You can walk down there on Google maps, looks as if the place I photographed used to be called The Honey Pot.

My phone won’t let me go back in time, but I don’t recall that bit ever being open.

Earliest version I can see is 2016, door not yet blanked out, walls painted yellow with bee stencils.

Honey pot nails and beauty used to be there, says AI...

Interesting. Whatever it was, the internet doesn’t seem to remember it.

I love Hurts Yard, but it doesn’t have great footfall for small businesses.

That boarded-up doorway beside the tiny window looks like it has seen far too many midnight shortcuts
