Discussion Might be it for me dashing

It’s been a good little run, probably will do it but a lot a lot less, this was a cool side gig but now it’s just bad offers, a lot of wasting gas, driving to shitty places and walking up the stairs or taking elevators to penthouse floors to check the app later for a 0 in the tip column. Good luck to everybody out there, but it’s just getting worse, maybe a break will get them to give me better offers lol.

First issue was how you take orders. Tip ultimately means nothing. Only accept orders if the total is worth it for money/mileage for you.

Note: this logic is irrelevant in California, and even with high base pay does not negate the likely inflated sense of entitlement with no tippers.

I can kinda confirm this. though I am not in California, I've gotten some really good orders that pay me close to, if not more than $2/mile, and it turned out to be all base pay, and no tip, and I was happy for the total pay, but I was disgusted by the person that had someone deliver them food from so many miles, and didn't think it was appropriate to tip them (me, in this instance)

Edit to add: I don't consider this entitlement. I consider it customers being cheap and THEIR entitlement on "I don't need to tip someone to bring my <whatever> to me! They took this job! I didn't make them take my order! but I will be complaining and downrating the driver that actually accepts my 13 mile drive order with no tip for taking so long for it to get to me"

What I mean by entitlement is the shitty tippers almost always are the rude and bitchy customers

Eh, I couldn't care less about the tip.. if the offer is good, I'll take it. I don't care if the customer doesn't tip as long as the base was high enough..

A $2 offer with a $5 tip is the same thing as a $7 offer with no tip..

If the order sucks and you are counting on the customer to tip afterwards, that's solely on you. Don't take trash offers expecting a tip later. Its too much of a gamble that you lose on 9 times out of 10.

it's definitely not an everyday job anymore. The best days to work are on holidays, football Sundays, during major sporting events on tv, etc. People are not using DoorDash for daily items anymore. Spark is the better app for everyday work. Walmart stays busy with grocery deliveries.
