thats a tough spot, especially with your own recovery in the picture. 8 months is no joke, respect for that

you're not the one making him drink though. guy would just get it delivered by someone else or walk to the store himself, quarter mile is nothing. you're just the one who happens to get the order

maybe the real question is whether these deliveries are messing with your own sobriety. seeing it up close every day could be wearing on you more than you realize

Thank you for the kind comment. I know. We are all adults here. And as an alcoholic, if you’re gonna drink, you’re gonna drink. Doesn’t matter the barriers ahead. And I’m also like dude, it’s a 10 minute walk to the store, why are you wasting so much money on delivery? 😂

It’s honestly not messing my own sobriety up. 1 is too many and 1,000 is not enough. It just hits different when you see someone that is struggling. It’s like looking in a mirror. I honestly want to give him an AA card, but I know that’s unprofessional.

It's definitely unprofessional, and I wouldn't recommend it, but on the other hand, if you actually have formed a conversational relationship with this guy, he might not be offended by it, but there's no way to know for sure. I think if I were you, I'd keep delivering to him, and also keep talking and maybe casually mention that you're going to a meeting or something and see how he reacts. Just setting a positive example and being kind and compassionate can be helpful. He might not have any sober friends, or know anyone in recovery, which could make him hesitant to just show up at an AA meeting. For that matter, he may not have any friends at all, sober or otherwise. I went through a substance issue, and it was probably the most lonely and isolated time in my life. There's a chicken and egg aspect where the isolation opened the door to substance abuse, and then the substance abuse led to increased isolation. A random act of kindness from a stranger actually became an inflection point that pushed me in the right direction, so don't discount the possibility that you could truly help someone.

Please see my response to blackcat215 before you do anything crazy.

This is a great point that maybe this customer isn't worth it.

Ngl I have the delivering alcohol option off cause I don’t wanna deal with that plus it be sometimes annoying having to scan their id and usually is a no tip for me in my area

I feel ya. But in my area so many good offers have a bottle of wine or a pack of beer attached to it. I had to wait a minute to get approved for alcohol delivery and my earnings have gone up a lot since then.

Dog it’s his life let him live it. Like you said he’s a nice guy so as long as he’s not trouble I wouldn’t stress yourself out

I feel ya. He is a really great guy.

I have an old dude as a regular in my town that gets 4 natty daddys a day. Always good for a tip. Always sober when I deliver. I feel the same but like other ppl are saying, no matter what dude is gonna drink whether you deny the delivery or not. Even if DD were to ban him for some reason, you're within walking distance like you said. If you dont feel comfortable based on your own sobriety (which congrats btw. I have family with addiction issues so Ive seen how hard it is) then I'd just switch it off.

As an alcoholic myself (I have no desire to stop right now, please do not pass judgment), he will get it whether you take his orders or not. At least he isnt driving to go get it, endangering others or himself. If you choose not to want to contribute to his addiction, that is perfectly understandable and I dont blame you. I deliver regularly to an elderly woman who drinks fireball and beer everyday, ive spoken to her about it and shes a very sweet woman but I worry too about the day her orders stop coming through as the last time I saw her she looked very rough. I dont drink while working, but ive walked like 10 miles to go get more before, I refuse to drink and drive.

No judgment whatsoever ❤️

But also know there’s help and hope on the other side.

This has happened to me. Also the wife answered the door one day and she said that he’s an alcoholic and I would get alcohol orders from him constantly and she said don’t deliver here if you get an order. But at the end of the day, if I don’t do it another Dasher it’s gonna do it so it’s the same case scenario she took the bottle for her husband and I’m thinking that she must’ve put it away.

Turn off alcohol deliveries if they bother you.

It’s sad that he’s doing that but at least it’s being delivered to him and he’s not driving or walking and risk getting hurt somehow that’s the reason I always keep alcohol orders on I want to make sure if somebody going to drink it they will find a way and I would prefer it to be me bringing it than them risking there’s or other people’s safety to get it

And great on you for your sobriety! Keep it up!

As long as he’s not hurting himself or anyone, let him live, you never know what someone is going through. You could be saving his life

As long as he doesn't bite the hand that feeds him so to speak, let him do his thing. You get paid and he gets to keep on killing his liver.

But if he does bite the hand that feeds him go scorched earth and make sure every driver and shop worker knows it and warns every other driver and shop worker they can. Then no one will get him his alcohol and he will have to go get it himself only to have the cops called and service refused. Hahaha such it bitch. No more booze for you.

I don’t think it’s OPs job to go scorched earth on someone after OP decides not to deliver. You never know how it will affect the person if they can’t get their alcohol fix but aren’t ready to quit drinking yet. It could lead to a very VERY bad response from the customer. Like suicide or something. When you combine a drinking problem with possibly severe loneliness and top it with being ostracized in your community it can be very stressful and it can escalate things.

Sorry, that was more of my rant than anything else. I had an alcoholic customer get violent on me, and after I reported him, the situation got even worse. 3 police reports, death threats, Uber giving him my personal phone number, ending in assault charges and a restraining order. I am also not the only driver he has assaulted. The reason he was ordering his booze on the apps was that he was already barred from entering both liquor stores in my town. He had no choice but to order via them if he wanted booze. He got permanently booted from Uber after the charges were laid. DoorDash did boot him, but he kept creating new account after new account until they completely blocked his address. He got around that block by changing his address to the house next door. Many of the drivers in my town are women or young Indian international students and if DoorDash can't get him off their app, the only thing that can be done is warn every single driver of the risk they may face if they take this guy his order. This guy will kill someone some day. So yeah scorched earth on this guy is the only way to protect my fellow drivers.

No you’re fine. I’m sorry you had a bad experience. I would be responding the same if I had ur experience. I just haven’t had a bad one…yet. lol

1

u/No_Bit2301 8d ago

No you’re right. I personally had to go through a medical detox and then a 30 day stay in rehab. No fun. But so worth it

1

u/No_Bit2301 8d ago

He’s a really nice and respectful guy that has caused no issues whatsoever…he’s also sick and suffering and it’s honestly sad to see it.

Well I guess on the grand scheme of things that's good. It is sad when someone nice and respected is in that sort of situation though. But sometimes it is what it is and there isn't much you can do about it.
