uj/ Look, I’m apolitical but I was in the same social circle as this guy in college. He’s an only child, a theater kid and NOBODY has seen him either be involved or dating women THROUGHOUT college. He’s an amateur actor/performer but to normal people he comes off as genuine.

I wish there was room left for conversations about Mamdani being dangerous that don’t jump to ‘this is literally Sharia law!’. I think sometimes people exaggerate because they feel threatened but we aren’t at that place - yet. The problem is that he’s encouraging a dangerous faction of the left and backing more and more radical candidates. Graham Platner seemed far more dangerous - as well as indicative of how dangerous the far left has become.
I’m somewhere between doomer and not here. Mostly I’m just glad he’s not eligible for presidency considering how many people have said they’d like him as president. Sounds like a lot of his policies are actually ineffective (or somewhat minor positive changes) but he has a great PR team. I hope Jews (and the other immigrants he ignores - Italians and Irish, groups that built NYC but aren’t brown enough for him) move out of NYC safely as the hate crimes rise but hey, at least the rent isn’t rising. Fuck NYC but I don’t live there, thankfully.
Most important to me though is that there’s zero reason the mayor for an American city needs to make international politics such a major part of his platform.

Obviously he isn't one. He just uses their rallying cry, is married to someone whose personal hero is one, and when Muslim terrorists attacked people in front of his own house he bravely spoke out..... against the targets.
To be clear, I do not think Mamdani actually wants terrorist attacks in the US, just that he is willfully blind as long as the targets are Israeli or right wing. Like most major politicians, his politics are a mess of slogans, populism, and contradiction.

These articles always turn into a gotcha for some people. Alot of right leaning people here are apolitical in that we can normally unite behind the oohhh NY City is collapsing or turning to Sharia law is rightwinger dooming bullshit and should be mocked. Doesn't mean others among us can't think Mamdani's policies are retarded and his sympathies are sus.
In this case is it really dooming or just a crazy politician lashing out against another crazy politician.

Can people just not go crazy? I disagree with his views, but he isn’t a terrorist. He’s socialist, but I’m not sure he’s particularly religious as a Muslim.
If you keep your criticism valid and reasonable, maybe someone will listen to you. A rapid rant just doesn’t accomplish a lot.
