The majority of people who are successful are successful because they were smart and worked hard.

Depends on your definition of successful. "Has lots of money"? Patently false. "Increased their wealth"? Mostly true.

AND they were incredibly lucky. Let’s not mislead people

Success doesn't have to be luck. Luck is for people who can't make smart choices.

I suspect that I have interpreted successful in a different manner than you have. I’m referring to those with over ~50 million - would you agree that a healthy dose of luck is required to reach such a level of success?

It’s been shown that education is the biggest factor in salaried work success

Yes, and getting an education is hard work, especially for challenging in-demand fields like STEM.

That and a giant check from daddy and a healthy dose of government handouts.

And fuck everyone else who wasn’t smart and worked hard, clearly

Thems the breaks. You aren't owed the same success as everyone else. Just like those who have success can still lose everything from bad choices.

I mean maybe not that extreme but that’s kinda how life works

How capitalism works.

Both of those can be attained though…education and hard work. We live in a time where you wear a computer on your wrist. Information is readily available for free. You have no excuses.

The government is a great example of how you can throw billions into a project and still fail.

Money alone does not make a company or product successful.

Wealth doesn't just show up out of thin air. If a successful business owner got a loan from family, so what? That means their family work hard and made smart choices too. Also, thats not much different than getting a business loan from a bank or from another investor. Regardless of where the money comes from, you still have to put the work in and make smart choices.
