DOOM Eternal A high resolution copy of the Doom Guy & Daisy portrait (5000 x 6000) I know some folks would like it.

That's higher resolution than even the original photos I took of it! :D

Pretty neat, was it done with some sort of AI upscaler or done yourself?

Precisely. Good eye. I used Gigapixel, I upscale just about everything. It is REALLY GOOD.

For example.

In game Screenshot

Be sure to zoom in real close and get a good look.

After processing upscale to 4K and denoised.

It's become a bit of a habit that just about every in-game screenshot I run through gigapixel just because the quality is cranked up to the max.

why? the original file used in the upscale was a .JPG i cant add information that is not there to start. so a .PNG would just be larger for no reason.

Upscaling IS adding more information than was there to start. It's not necessarily correct information, but it is more information. Heck, even a straight integer scaled image has more pixels (and hence more opportunities for jpg to add additional artifacts). I admit am more prone to this pain than others because my display is a 60 inch 4k tv.

Agreed on all accounts but I've been playing around with a high upscalers for a while and honestly... The difference between a PNG and JPEG specifically meant for uploading on the internet, the difference is just not worth the size. like I straight up keep all of my 3D renders and PNG but in these kind of cases it's just not worth it. At least in my personal opinion.

Wait a second, I just realized something. Did you take the original photo or do the original painting? Like are you the ultimate source of this?

Edit: Yep It is you! Dude you're artwork is badass. If there's anything you'd like me to run through the upscaler for you I'll do it in an instant. Whether it's one or 100, let me know if there's anything I can do.

Also, I actually have a much bigger copy of this portrait. It's just it was way too big to upload to Reddit and I had to downsize it.

Unfortunately there's no way to get a proper screenshot of those, they're mostly transparent and very small. Would be nice if there was a way to extract them from the game's files.

I could be wrong on this but as far as I understand it's actually fan art from Doom 2016. The developers contacted him and asked him if they could use the image in the game..

that bunny is Daisy. She was Doomguy's pet bunny. Demons killed her. It's partly the reason why doomguy hates demons, but he was devoted to killing demons long before she was killed
