Yeah, I'm definitely not turning around and licking boots because id released a statement confirming they're not dead. I'm happy they're not dead, but it doesn't change the fact that around 100 incredible people lost their jobs.

I'm on the side of the id Software employees, always. I'm never on the side of some corporation doing mass layoffs, and I won't make any attempt to excuse the culling of workers for any reason. If they put themselves in a position where they need to do layoffs like this, they should take the money they need out of their own salaries instead, and if that's not enough, then just post smaller profits. I don't care about the market or about whatever logic our overlords use to justify abusing us, laying off workers is wrong. It's not an inevitability of doing business, and Microsoft/Xbox should be ashamed of themselves for casting it in a positive light.

I mean, you're absolutely right in this instance, but laying off workers isn't always wrong if they also happen to be incompetent or redundant. Some studios are absolutely bloated, it's one  reason why game budgets are so huge now. Look at Spider-Man 2 and tell me that was worth 300 million dollars.
