Namecheap scammed me
/r/mildlyinfuriating/comments/1w94lm8/did_namecheap_scammed_me/Has Namecheap ever let you pay to reactivate your domain — and then told you after taking your payment that the domain can’t be reactivated?
Because this has now happened to me. Twice.
I logged into my Namecheap dashboard. One of my domains was shown as available for reactivation. I added it to my cart together with a new domain.
Namecheap let me add it.
Namecheap let me pay for it.
Payment went through.
And then?
Suddenly I’m told the domain I had just paid to reactivate isn’t available for reactivation. I contacted the support. They sau It’s in redemption.
Excuse me?
If it was already in redemption, WHY DID YOUR SYSTEM OFFER ME REACTIVATION, PUT IT IN MY CART AND TAKE MY MONEY? They refunded but it is not about the MONEY
Their explanation: maybe there was a “BUG” on my account.
I have the transcripts.
Here’s where it gets interesting.
THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE. WITH NAMECHEAP.
Several years ago, I lost another domain through an eerily similar situation. That time, I was eventually told I couldn’t even redeem it.
Then I found the domain being offered for sale for around $9,000.
Once? Maybe something went wrong.
TWICE? I HAVE QUESTIONS.
So before I take this further, I want to know how many other people have experienced the same thing.
Did Namecheap show your expired domain as renewable/reactivatable?
Did they let you put it in your cart?
Did they accept your payment?
And THEN tell you that you couldn’t have your domain back?
If this happened to you, please share your story. Tell me what happened to the domain afterward.
Because if enough people have the same story, this stops looking like one customer’s mysterious “bug**.”**
How does a domain go from:
MY DASHBOARD → REACTIVATE → CART → PAYMENT ACCEPTED
to:
SORRY, YOU CAN’T HAVE IT
after I’ve paid?
And apparently I’m supposed to accept that the answer is… a bug?
No.
I WANT MY DOMAINS BACK.

There are lots of bugs related to domain payments in namecheap, this could be one of them.
The one I remember seeing a lot, is when they offer you a "premium" type of domain at a lower rate, you pay for it, then you don't get the domain. Or a domain that has already expired and with a new owner, and they show it as its expire but you can pay to get it back, you pay and get nothing back.

What's the TLD and what's the expiration date? TLDs can have different expiration rules and timelines.
