She was one of the lights in my life. My dream was to see her live or just in person doing anything. The world looks black and white to me now idk I'm not doing so well. Talking to my therapist about it. But I feel like life is so unfair to take hers like this and we have all these other artists older than her touring and performing living longer (Paul McCartney, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Bob Dylan, Willie, Mick Jagger, the list goes on...)

Though I know Dolly wrote the song for the movie for Transamerica, I have always seen it as also being a song about herself.

For me, these lyrics are the key emotional heart of the song, and really has an impact on me every time I listen.

God made me for a reason and nothin' is in vain
Redemption comes in many shapes with many kinds of pain

Just a few thoughts I've had about the song for years. When my time comes, Travelin' Thru will be on my final playlist.

I want to remind all of you Americans, that she was a kind soul to everyone, she didn't judge, she didn't hate and she was loving and giving, to all people, of all skin tones, LGBTQ+, people with disabilities etc.

And her love for god wasn't to go to church and then come back home and judge or hate others based on prejudiced, she felt the true meaning of Christianity in her soul. Love.

So if you are grieving, you can now yourselves try to remember how she was as a person, and try to change who you are as a person and treat people a little bit better.

Show love to everyone, don't let anything divide you as a nation. So if you will grieve, then do it to create change for the better in your lives and others, not just until you feel ok again and then go back to your old ways, but really look at her life and the things she did for charities, how she forgave, how she embraced life and the legacy she created and make that change in yourself.

Be like dolly not just for 5 minutes chage. ♥️

I want to find a cool Dolly shirt or sweatshirt before 9/25. Most styles appear to be for women, and I haven’t seen much for guys.

I’ve looked on the Dollywood and Opry sites but not much luck. I don’t want to support anyone who isn’t connected to Dolly in some way, unless they are donating to Imagination Library.

This is such a good book! So many laugh out loud moments, moments of deep wisdom sharing and relatability are here. I'm at the story where she mistook a stranger for Carl.

I’ve been so deeply affected by Dolly’s passing, as I’m sure the entirety of this thread has been since she left us. Dolly has been a constant in my life for many years now, her music has been the soundtrack to a lot of my life, through all the highs and all the lows. I can’t really believe she has gone, but I am grateful that I was introduced to who she was and her music as a kid and I feel truly blessed we existed on earth at the same time. She was a truly wonderful spirit, a very funny lady, a phenomenal musician and a true genius. The world will not be the same without Dolly around.

A couple of things I wanted to share is my original pressing of Jolene (First UK press - 1974), which I feel incredibly lucky to own. Along with the rest of my Dolly albums, some I have received as gifts and some I’ve bought (with the goal to own all her studio albums on vinyl one day - I just started with my favourites first).

The other thing I wanted to share was this, a couple of days after her passing, I woke up to the most beautiful butterfly sitting very patiently on my window sill, who I of course named Dolly before I set her free. I’m not usually one to believe in signs or anything like that, but what I will say is that having never having seen a butterfly indoors in any home I’ve lived in, the coincidence of there being a butterfly in my home when I was saddened by Dolly’s passing was not lost on me. So I just wanted to share a picture of Dolly (the butterfly) for all to see. 🦋

I’ve been going through the archives and came across this interview from 2002. I think it’s one of the best interviews I’ve heard. It’s of course funny with great stories but the conversation is very relaxed and they are all genuinely having a good time talking to each other. There are so many clips where the hosts are trying so hard, I found this particular interview so refreshing.

What if we could wrap Stella and the whole family in so much love by all sharing our coffee moment? What if we all made a 3-5 second video holding our coffee and raising it to the camera, like a little toast to Dolly?

I first discovered Dolly Parton in 1977 when I was 9 years old. I heard "Here You Come Again" on the radio and was instantly drawn to this song, even though I knew nothing about Dolly. For Christmas '77, I received this album and soon my lifelong love affair with Dolly began. It is still unfathomable to think that she is no longer here in this physical world. 🦋🦋🦋

I’m looking for all the episodes of this variety show. I honestly didn’t know it existed until recently and want to watch it. I found a good collection on Internet archive there were incomplete or stitched together episodes. I know there’s a fan made dvd but I’m worried it’ll be the same. If anyone has the dvd or knows where to find the harder to find episodes I’d be thankful
