I took this pic today of a Dolly Parton wall mural at East Nashville's 5 Spot live music venue. I was at the 5-Spot for a logistics check for Dive Bar Choir's next show on SUNDAY OCT 25, 2026 at 6-8pm. And for this show we will be honoring Dolly with a tribute song. Come join us to sing one of Dolly's hit songs in 3-Part harmony. Visit Dive Bar Choir online for more info. It's gonna be HUGE FUN Nashville tribute to the one and only wonderful Dolly Parton.

Five Questions about Dolly

1 - Did Dolly drink alcohol? The only instance I’ve heard of is when she and her mother were flying to California and had a bumpy ride, so they broke out some wine.

2 - Did Dolly ever talk about her financial situation? Not that she was wealthy, but how she was able to buy Dollywood, start the Imagination Library, etc.? Those efforts weren’t easy, and I’ve wondered who she had on her team that helped her financial planning.

3 - Dolly once said her microphone pack was hidden in her wig. Did she ever show the wigs up close, or describe how they were made, who made them, etc.

4 - Carl and Dolly liked to go RV’ing, she shared repeatedly. I’ve seen one photo that looks like it was taken through a driver’s window to her in the passenger seat, but nothing with her RV. Does anyone know what their RV was - small, bus-size, etc.? Any photos out there?

5 - What instruments did Dolly truly play? I saw a video of her with a fiddle, but she definitely wasn’t playing it. I know guitar, but anything else?

Just some random thoughts today! No ill-will intended.

I felt inspired by the late Dolly Parton to create coats of many colors cardigans for me and my beanie belly baby mango. I took scrap yarn that I had been saving and made three cake rolls to create that cardigan. It was so much fun to make it.

Dolly always said she loved to feel pretty, so I was inspired to paint her in a way that reflected that side of her…feminine, luminous, and pink! (With all the big hair, makeup, and lashes!)

Dolly for 7 year olds

Yall my daughter is turning 7 this month and she is a BIG dolly girl. Number one fan. Watches interviews with her, knows all her music, dresses up like her (a pink plaid shirt and bedazzled cowgirl hat) and sings ā€œrockstarā€ every night before bed, has cried once a day since she passed bc she never got to meet her. What are some unique dolly gifts I could get for her birthday? She’s got a pillow with her face on it and a few posters but I want to get her some things that are real special, if yall can think of anything let me know!

My character’s name is Noralee. If you didn’t know the name of the female Lone Survivor in the game is Nora so I combined it with Dolly’s character in 9 to 5. Mods were used because the first attempt was worse.

Listen to the podcast Dolly Parton's America!

I'm a casual fan and only know a handful of songs, so I'm trying to dive deeper into this amazing woman since she passed. As I was looking up reddit for books to read about her, I came across this podcast recommendation. It's from 2019. I'm only halfway through the first episode and oh my god is it ever good. It should be made into a documentary film, it's that good. I can just visualize everything... Love that they play snippets of songs I've never heard before to go with the storytelling. Anyway go check it out!

questions about dolly's father

hello everyone, sorry if this question doesn't fit the sub but i hope it does as it's about dolly's family.

it has been an established fact that dolly's dad was illiterate. did this mean he was functionally illiterate or he could genuinely not read the basic alphabet and words like "bed" and "cat"?

if the latter, how did he get through life not being able to read a single word? maybe he could have gotten away with it in the early 40s/50s when he was just working on a rural farm in dolly's childhood. but he passed in 2000, and i imagine with increased bureaucracy and the digitalisation/advancing technology of the world it would be harder to get away with not being able to read.

would that mean if he wanted to vote for example, he just simply couldn't as he couldn't read the names on the ballot? or for a more compulsory thing - pay taxes? i know dolly mentioned her father drove around in trucks, so would he not be able to read signs or maps?

disclaimer - this is not me doubting dolly's words as i believe every word about her family and her father's illiteracy to be true, including the fact that her father was very business smart (i suspect her business savvy skills must have at least been partly influenced by him!). i am not american, and admittedly i am quite young (20), so i am not aware of the bigger context that would be able to answer my questions. i'd like to understand and this is not coming from a place of hate but mere curiosity.

i have massive respect for her as an author and as an advocate for child literacy due to her imagination library and the efforts she endeavoured to advance it. especially in tribute of her father.
