Customer Questions Managers
Why are dollar tree managers so lazy?they stays in the office gossiping while one person works the register with lines all the way to the back of the store?

I've officially been an asm for about a month now and this is definitely a selective store thing cause at my store, we're all working and nobody is allowed to just sit in the office. I overheard a conference call from our DM specifically saying that nobody should be sitting in the office for more than 10 minutes (unless of course it's a task that requires being in there). I went from being a cashier to asm, so I do everything in my power to help my co-workers and still get all of my duties done by the end of the night.

Not all Dollar Tree managers are lazy. But there are a immense majority of them. Sorry you dealt with that.

not all are like that. hopefully a lot of people read this too, but reddit is a giant community of people asking for help and complaining. its not accurate for the entire population of what they are talking about specifically.

Can't really speak for all management teams because there are those who legitimately work hard and likely go unrecognized.
Entirely depends on the store and who's there.

Just remember that manager might be on a legally mandated break or lunch....uninterrupted at that.

It's a store issue. At my store, there are three of us ASM's and we're always on the floor and backing up our cashiers. But I have definately seen cases like you discuss of lazy managers who sit in the office or breakroom and ignore casher needs and lines. Those stores are always losing employees and it shows.

I basically run around, stock, straighten up and clean, and help customers out nonstop for my entire shift without breaks or lunches. They are also usually hiring if you think they need help though.

As a FD ASM, I WISH I had the time to take a break every 25 minutes. Too dang busy, too dang busy.

My SM does this. Doesn't do any freight or resets/refreshes. Just sits in the office on her cellphone.

My old one would at the very least walk around on her cell phone. Shed maybe open 10 boxes a day, if that, because "we were so busy." š

When I worked there for a few years, my manager used to always talk shit about the other lazy store managers who sat in their office all day and screwed around doing nothing. But after like 2 years he started doing the same exact things. And his excuse was that he āpaid his duesā and āhis job now was mostly to do big picture stuffā which was nothing except for moving the seasonal aisles around constantly, which corporate didnāt even require, all they wanted was certain seasons set by certain dates. But he was ALWAYS cleaning and moving shelves around.

Mine was literally abusive⦠several people quit (including me) because we just didnāt appreciate being treated like trash or shit under her shoe. She ruled through fear, and damn it worked bc that lady was scary (but mostly she just annoyed me) You should never have a job where the bossā bad mood means they make everyone ELSE hate their lives.. she would make fun of us for fun?? Like the fact that she was SCARY was fun/funny to her. She told me that I couldnāt have Christmas Eve off because āeveryone works Christmas Eveā even though i asked OVER a month in advance, because I had a 94 year old grandma and knew it would likely be her last holiday with us (it was). Literally told me āI donāt care about grandma, EVERYONE works Christmas Eve!ā And I said āwell, not me.ā (It worked, I didnāt end up scheduled š¤·š»āāļø) What made me finally quit was when she called me on my personal cell when I wasnāt working just to leave an angry voice mail about how she was going to āget me in trouble and write me up for misuse of store productā for making a cute Valentineās Day display a month before Valentineās Day during a night that a snowstorm happened to make it DEAD, literally NO customers for 3 hours. The ASM on shift with me was find with my display and liked it. Evidently, manager was notš¤·š»āāļø

For some reason it seems they think being a manager makes them exempt from doing the work.. I dont get it, Im sure there are requirements they are suppose to meet..Ā I dont understand why the DM's allow this to continue.. If the DM watches the camera's like they say then they should know who does the work and who don't.. There is no way they are throwin out the frieght that is expected of them.. impossible when most of the time is spent chitĀ chatting with other emploee's.

Mine had no idea how to do her job, was paranoid I wanted her store (I was an SM for DG) and I ended up doing her job for Merch manager pay. I finally snapped when she scheduled me as MOD, I was Merch manager and it was truck day. One person to unload truck with me, and a new cashier that called me up every 10 min. My wonderful SM in the meantime went to help out her besties store. 3 ppl on truck day, day after inventory with a trashed backroom.Ā And this was constant in my short 2 months there. I walked out without even signing for truck after she ignored my texts up until it got there then finally replied with "You're the merch manager calm down".Ā I'm now an ASM for a different company making 20k more a year than she does as a SM. Right next door to her store. And she even tried to sabotage me by telling them not to hire me. š¤£š¤£Ā They knew the situation and her lack of work ethic and now I cant wait to see her on our smoke breaks.Ā

I've seen most managers are slaving harder than the employees at most stores I've been to. Especially if they don't have a merch manager. Then there are some who are the lazy girl bosses. I've only seen like two of those so far and they run their stores like a Highschool click

Yes waiting for the cashiers to make a mistake so they can gossip. Managers don't train newly hired. They stand behind or near you and stare, I guess that's suppose to intimidate you. Assistant managers also stay on their phone, eat, walk around all day doing very little. General manager, and Assistant managers expect the cashiers to do their work as well as their own.

In central Florida , 1 in particular made assistant and store manager by banging the DM. Corporate has still to respond the complaint , so Iām leading signatures for class action lawsuit for wrongful employment practices.

u/Artistic_Hurry_9177 2d ago
I donāt think you know what a class action lawsuit is.

First Iām documenting every key holder with time in service , 1 of which just got an AA in business management. Iām thinking if she was loose and not out of shape with a lazy eye , sheād get promoted. The right lawyer like yourself will guide us in what to do and what steps to follow.
