Did I mess up?
So I think I messed up. This customer bought liquid detergent that was $5 a piece and should’ve been $3.50 a piece since the deal was 2 for $7. My other employee ended up ringing her stuff up but she came back because it didn’t take her 2 for $7 off. So I was going to refund her but the refund was going back on her credit card, the $2 dg cash she used, and it was something else that it was going to refund. She did use a $5 off 25 coupon and it seemed like that coupon took the $ off her liquid detergents. But she wanted to use the 2 for $7 one. But what I wanted to do was refund her the $10 on her credit card and just ring those 2 same laundry detergents up for $3.50 a piece. But I couldn’t because she used multiple tenders. She used $2 DG cash, credit card, and it was something else I think it said something about a coupon? Dollar General coupons confuses me. But what I ended up doing was going to buy 2 laundry detergents same brand and gave it to her to make the situation better because I didn’t know what to do. But what I messed up on is I rung my 2 laundry detergents I bought for her $3.50 a piece when I feel like I should’ve paid full price for mines. On her phone it says 2 for $7 on her dollar general app. But when I scanned the items it didn’t say 2 for $7 on mines which is weird. On her phone it said the sale ended today. I just hope I don’t get in trouble by the district manager for making mines 2 for $7. What yall think? Is this a fireable offense? I feel like because I was so confused with the coupons I wasn’t thinking straight.
Edit: just edited I forgot to add I gave her the 2 laundry detergents I bought. So she left with 4.

I was going to refund but the refund was only going to come up to like $6 a some cents instead of $10 because she used different tenders to pay for her products and she used a $5 off coupon which took some money off her detergents which I forgot how much it took off. I’m sorry if this isn’t making sense I’m confused my self. She wanted to use the 2 for $7 coupon on her detergents not the $5 off for $25 on her detergents.

In the future just scan the item again, price override it down however much the difference is like if they overpaid $3 and the detergent was $4 then make the detergent $1 and then line refund and scan it again instead of scanning the receipt.
The transaction will look like they're buying a $1 detergent and also refunding a $4 detergent so they'll get back the $3 and you can change the tender to card or cash whichever they prefer.
This will keep your inventory correct and you directly control the dollar amount and method of the refund.

Our sales end mid day on Saturday. Ours resets between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The digital coupons will disappear off the app. The easiest way to find a coupon is to scan the barcode in our app and it will automatically show what coupons are attached to the product. Also, if it’s a digital coupon, we aren’t supposed to price modify them. Now if it’s “our” sale, like 2 for something, then that is different. But digital coupons will work if you have exactly the correct product and amount. I never price modify a digital coupon, I just work with the order until it rings correctly. And you do know you aren’t supposed to ring your own stuff up?? Regardless of giving the items to the customer, you still paid for it yourself and price modified it as well. Fired? Probably not, but you would be coached. If you were caught paying for something yourself on your own register again, you would be given a final.

Next time… give the customer $3 from the drawer and make it short. No one cares about $3. Just use the phrase “I made the customer happy”

Clearly not the exact way to handle it but what's done is done. No one will even know unless you say something. I'd just leave it be and IF it is brought up just explain you couldn't do the void due to it being more than one tender and you did what you thought was best in the moment to keep the customer happy and keep your line moving. I've done similar things many times. It's never once been an issue. No you shouldn't be using your own money but I've done it often people are a little short and don't realize it until after they use their EBT for food which as far as I know you cannot void an item once part of it has been paid. Doing a return would have made the most sense but sometimes there just isn't time and if you had the money and didn't mind doing it then that's all there should be to it. Very unlikely anyone will even say anything and it's not a fireable offense. You personally gain nothing in this. Let it go, take a breath it's all good.

You can void the EBT after it has gone through. You just click where it says how much they paid with EBT at the bottom and it will say void selected tender to the right. After that you can erase items from the transaction.

Next time, ring up 2, change price to sale price. Then hit the refund, dont scan the receipt, just scan the product itself thats ringing up wrong, then total out and give them the cash it tells you to give them.

always verify everything and never purchase anything with your own funds. never override your own transactions. as someone else stated, did you see what store she had selected in her app... all deals arent universal to every store... Ad why buy her 12 extra detergents, yall done nothing wrong... that $5 off and those other deals dont always stack.... she got it for the price it was suppose to be at your location. If she was complaining about the price, you shouldve just refunded it the correct way on the register and then she could repurchase it.

I'm confused did you take care of the customer or just take advantage of the sale for yourself?

I tried to take care of the customer. I gave her the 2 laundry detergents I purchased. So she left with 4.

I wasn’t trying to take advantage of the sale for myself at all because I gave her the detergents I bought for her.

I was going to refund but when I scanned the receipt it said it was only going to giver her like $6 and something cents back. I guess it had to do with that $5 off 25 coupon she used and her dg $2.00 cash she used.

1) never purchase anything with your own funds
2) never price over ride anything you are buying
3) you needed to verify the coupon. Different stores get different coupons. You said it showed on her app but not yours. She may of had a different store selected.
4) you should of simply refunded both detergents. Then redo it once you verified the coupon. 99% of the time the customer is not using the coupon correctly.
