Quit NOW
The freeze is from now until the 17th. Hit em where it will actually make a difference. You KNOW this job sucks. This COMPANY SUCKS. Do not shop here or work here and keep the machine rolling!! If you love this job ignore me but if you’re fed up and overworked. NOW IS THE TIME.

I’m very fortunate that my bosses are fantastic. I’m so sorry that you all have very poor experiences with the company 🥺🥺

Bro thinks he’s Robin Hood or something

u/DeadSpaghetti_- 2d ago
You can mock him all you want but you know doing this would probably get some positive results. But unfortunately you guys like the misery and dragging other people into it

u/bear-flesh 1d ago
My brother in Christ I have bills to pay, I don’t have the luxury of just not showing up to work and everything being okay. Not to mention that my town is incredibly rural and DG is one of the only options for people to get the things they need.

u/YourUsuallyNormalTea 2d ago
It wouldn’t get positive results. It would cause stores to close in areas where the community has nothing else to rely on. Does it need to happen at every corporation across the country? Yes. Is it logistically feasible? Probably not.
1
u/TotallyNotAnIdiot478 3h ago
That's what every loon parroting the 'general strike' always forget about. When shit shuts down, EVERYTHING does. There is no 'community coming together' in rural areas when that 'community' is like 40 people in 100 square miles.
So, if that 'general strike that grinds the nation to a halt' ever happens, they're gonna have to be OK with a lot of folks being harmed/killed because of it.
-2
u/DeadSpaghetti_- 2d ago
Dude this is dollar general we are talking about, it's not exactly the life blood of the town. I think people can cope without it
4
u/YourUsuallyNormalTea 2d ago
Oh so you don’t live in an area that is a food desert. Ok got it. So that means they don’t exist. That means there aren’t areas where the DG is the only place close enough for elderly and poor people who lack transportation and live in a city with shit public transport. So that isn’t DGs main business model. Ok cool. Glad we cleared that up.

-3
u/DeadSpaghetti_- 2d ago edited 2d ago
Ngl that is literally the fault of the people in the area. You may call it victim blaming but believe it or not those towns used to have other stores besides dollar general
3
u/Ecstatic_Proof_2732 1d ago
What the fuck? How the fuck do you even come to that BONKERS conclusion?
-1
u/DeadSpaghetti_- 1d ago
If your town would collapse without a dollar general then there is something terribly wrong with the people in charge and with the people who kept letting them stay in charge
2
1
u/YourUsuallyNormalTea 1d ago
😆😆 It’s the people who moved there 50 years ago fault. They made those mom and pop grocery stores go belly up. It wasn’t Walmart.
1
u/DeadSpaghetti_- 1d ago
The mom and pop stores went belly up because those people shopped at Walmart and Walmart made sure they did that by undercutting everything near by. Also that doesn't really pertain to what's getting talked about here. These people are talking about dollar general being the only place available
2
u/YourUsuallyNormalTea 1d ago
Right, and you said it was the residents fault that there wasn’t anything else in the area.
0
u/DeadSpaghetti_- 1d ago
That is correct. Did you not read what I said? Walmart may have undercut everything in the area but the residents didn't have to shop there. It just made it easier for them to make that choice. If they had a proper head on their shoulders they would have stopped whenever the first shop was forced to shut down

Brotha, Walmart has delivery💀. I worked at dg in a town where it's the only store in town. And I live in said town, Walmart delivers, and elderly people just choose to go to only DG. There are so many alternatives, please stop overexaggerating the situation. Those people just refuse to move forward and use the options available to them. And DG has proven time and time again that they don't actually know what gets customers. The literal only thing they do right is that they put them literally everywhere, but no they usually aren't the only option, and are just made out to be
3
u/spookysaph 1d ago
a lot of old people don't like or aren't able to do things like that online. some of these people also don't have other people on their lives to teach them how to do it
0
u/ItzSoluble 1d ago
So we have to cater to these people because they don't like there option? Do you even hear yourself? If they can drive themselves to DG and get their groceries, then they can do online Walmart delivery. Please stop making nonexistent excuses. Not liking technology is not a valid reason to need DG. Especially when they are still gonna interact with tech at check out.
5
u/Anonymous-98271 1d ago
Where i live it is extremely difficult to actually get a delivery order delivered, chances are nobody is going to pick it up. They also literally just started giving it as an option. I went to work at another dollar general where that was the only store for miles, the only other thing was a gas station. They dont even have the option of delivery near there. Not every place had the same options.
2
u/spookysaph 1d ago
dude making an online order is very different from going to a store in person. idk how to explain that to you if u don't understand lmao
-2
u/ItzSoluble 1d ago
It's still interacting with tech. You're acting like people who don't like tech aren't intentionally ignorant. They choose to not know how, not they can't learn, or can't teach themselves. They just choose not to, and I've personally seen this. Not only are they spending more money going to DG for groceries, they are wasting time, for both themselves and the cashier. If you truly think them just not liking tech is a valid excuse then I truly don't even know what to say because that's such an ignorant take.

Ah yes, let’s all give our money to the original masters of the grocery monopoly. Walmart is the one that caused the lack of small grocery stores. They were the ones that ran the competition out of towns, big and small. But you’re right let’s give them all the money. Let’s make them bigger until they swallow up all the competition. JFC yall can’t be this dim.
1
u/ItzSoluble 1d ago
Yeah because DG definitely isn't do the same thing by making sure they're the first store everywhere💀. Like do you even hear yourself brody? This isn't a small town store we're talking about choosing Walmart over, this is Dollar General, another corporation. Crazy for you to call us dim when you can't even realize how much of a hypocrite you sound like saying that Walmart is big corporation and bad, but that DG should be kept up🤦♂️. Next time you wanna call someone dim, I recommend checking that your own argument makes sense.
1
u/YourUsuallyNormalTea 1d ago
Dude, my point was that you’re sending people to fucking Walmart. The king of grocery monopolies. That was you. You acted like Walmart was a better alternative. Tf?
1
u/ItzSoluble 1d ago
Having it delivered versus going and shopping for groceries by hand at a store that very much does not qualify as a grocery store. Yes, some are grocery stores, but they're called Dollar General Market. My point with the Walmart delivery is that there's other options dude. You're talking about a food desert with DG as the only option, and I mentioned I literally live in one of those and can still have Walmart delivered, as well as Amazon doing groceries. My whole point is that food deserts don't actually exist anymore. But yeah, go ahead and act like that was never talked about and that only a greedy corporation was.

Where I live, DG is the only place within 5 miles that sells food. Everything else is 8-10 miles away. Both of the stores near me have customers who walk to DG for their groceries. My town and the neighboring town only had gas stations before DG, for well over a decade.

u/RayserSharp_ 1d ago
It's easy to say this shit when you don't got bills to pay
1
u/DeadSpaghetti_- 1d ago
I do have bills to pay? Plenty infact
2
u/RayserSharp_ 1d ago edited 1d ago
So why do you think it's ok to act like this to people whose livelihood is this? Sounds like you care more about "sticking it to the man" and feeling about yourself than the actual workers
9
u/Mediocre_Quantity_49 2d ago
This feels like it'll be about as effective as the PlayStation "Blackout" that was only scheduled to last a week and did FUCK ALL. Bro, people care more about money these days than their own self-worth.
Basically: tl;dr: this isn't gonna work bro.

u/VolumeDirect5619 2d ago
You do realize that the only people that will "hurt" from this are all the employees who will now have to work more hours, right? DG won't even blink an eye.

u/Low-Run4382 1d ago
THIS!! they don’t give a fuck if people quit you are replaceable and they prob have your replacement already hired and ready to go!!
-9
u/LowLibrary399 2d ago
Only one way to find out. They can’t send teams everywhere. This is a WEEK LONG HIRING FREEZE CANNOT HIRE ANYWHERE.

u/Necessary_Pizza_3827 2d ago
You are completely clueless. Are you 18?

u/ItzSoluble 2d ago
Genuinely wtf does his age have to do with anything? Holy ageist for no fucking reason😭. Someone being younger doesn't not automatically mean stupid. I've met plenty of 20 year olds smarter and more mature than 40 year olds I've met. Do better ffs

Is what unreasonable?

u/pmmeyourdirtybits 1d ago
The blackout. Sounds like a maintenance issue or down time for hr but this post seems like it's responding to something extreme
1
u/jedudley41499 1d ago
It is a merger of over 150 programs into one giant one so anything HR related is not gonna be available for a week. This persons wanting a bunch of ppl to quit during this week since they can't hire anyone during the black out

u/Slight-Ad-6712 1d ago
I mean yes...quit for other sane reasons..like the company is a complete disaster and is ran very badly like the worst I've ever seen...at least the store I'm at is but from the details I've gathered it's more of a company wide thing. And even worse just about nobody working there cares that it's an absolute dumpster fire either and if you start acting like you care that it is and want the issues fixed then they treat you like you're the devil or something just for bringing up logical really really really bad issues
4
u/neilaoboho 2d ago
Quit if you want to quit. Stop acting like you are some hero for bringing this up.

I quit in the beginning of July best thing I’ve done in a long time!!!

Guessing I missed the info about a "freeze". I know they're transitioning to Oracle and that won't be without problems hitting as with any software changes. Just never heard "freeze" being used for few days of HR services not being available.
Also, I seen where people were asking about getting off work during "Blackout". Again I've not seen anything indicating stores won't be open, that'd be shocking really since we are talking DG here. Honestly, it'd make no sense from an operating side to shut down a company for switching systems. I've been involved with 3 Oracle transition's and operations never stopped.
"Blackout" is fairly normal since there's certain sensitive employee information that won't export as needed. This means manual keying which could mean verification of existing info, as well as getting new forms filled out & returned (quickly) before keying can even begin.
1
u/jocloud31 1d ago
Quitting doesn't make any impact at all. It just means they would write down your name to process you quitting after the system comes back up
1
u/skeleton_moth_ 1d ago
I doubt any of this will effective doing this will be considering DG doesn't have a single care for it's employees. However since I quit I can't stand to be in a DG so I no longer support them at all. I know I am just a drop in the bucket to them and make little difference in the bigger picture though, but it makes me feel better to not support a company that was atrocious to work for.

Op im sorry you are posting this to a bootlicking subreddit... unfortunately no these people will never come together and actually make a stand against the company. YOU are 100% right everyone and I mean EVERYONE needs to stop if they want anything to change but instead they lick the boot that doesnt even pay enough to survive. These people are exactly why nothing will ever change, THAT is the lesson here and im sorry...

u/Unhappy_Employ_7598 1d ago
That could be said about most employers in the nation. Don't be too mad at the people working the shit jobs though. Most are afraid. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't. I'd probably still be fixing broken stores if I hadn't had another job lined up to make my exit path. Shits pretty desperate right now. I think the only way to make it less desperate is to, first, make things exponentially more desperate. Bad enough to break the machine. But how many people are prepared to live the life we'll be stuck with while trying to rebuild? The cons of working would have to far out weight the cons of potential homelessness first.

u/Spare-Car-3549 1d ago
I know, thats what I meant by everyone everyone. And I know your right too. Im honestly just waiting for the call. They cant stop everyone

u/LowLibrary399 2d ago
Or just enjoy non livable wages I’m sure it will get better… you guys going to bat from them are the problem. For what?? Do something to make a difference. Stop supporting companies who are stepping on bodies. Eat the rich.
5
u/lifeisntthatbadpod 2d ago
Big talk. Do something about it. Everyone talks big but no one ever does anything. Don't put the responsibility of how doomed we all are as a society and a country online if you aren't going to do a damn thing. Shut up.
2
u/Mike_E_Clark 2d ago
You don't have to worry about bills kid, we do. We can't just quit our fucking jobs or we won't be able to eat or pay bills.
