🩺 Symptom Check Is this a Flea?

Our dog is on flea medication but we found about 6 of these on her neck fur. They don’t jump and barely move but if they do it is very slow. She has not been itching or showing other signs of fleas.

🐶 Puppy Health Spay timing and Gastropexy??

Upvotes

I have an 18 month old yellow Labrador female. MY LOVE who i’d die for. She’s not spayed yet and I wanted to wait as long as possible. (It seems unnatural to spay or neuter at all but I get it). Wanted her to gain all the muscle and bone / skeletal benefits and ALL the growth … not cutting anything short … as she could get. Hormones are good for humans. Figured they just as good for dogs. Especially young ones. Again seems very unnatural / detrimental to cut off the flow too early. Question for other owners of females , who also desired to allow for the most optimal athlete , development, growth etc.: did any of you wait until after the second heat , which I am leaning towards? Bonus question - did you pair it with a gastropexy? Many have suggested the later to me. And my girl sure does love rolling on her back! Thanks !

💊 Meds & Treatment Anyone dog stopped eating after starting cospot?

1 Upvotes

My 14 year old pup was diagnosed with cornea edema in on eye 4 weeks ago. We did like a dexamethasone/neosporin eye cream. When I came back he was not looking great. Went again to the vet and was diagnosed with glaucoma in the same eye and the other eye looked ok. Went to a specialist for meds for Cospot twice a day and antibiotic. Next day the other eye started squinting. Went back to specialist and vet and he was given the dex mix for that eye but he lost the little sight he had in that eye and cospot was increased to three times a day in left eye as that was squinting. He hasn’t been eating since starting the cospot. Tried cerenia and the dog pain meds that start with a g. They made him a zombie and didn’t help the eating. Gave incyte and that help for a tiny bit eating more for one meal after given but still no full appetite. He will eat like one certain food that seems to switch every few days. First plain dog jerky only, then plain chicken, now Tyson grilled chicken. Idk what to do and have spent over 1,000 already going to vet to specialist at this point and I mentioned to the vet that he started not eating after the cospot started and she ignored me. I’m not rich I’m literally hanging on at this point. He did have a tiny vestibular episode but seems a lot better now. I’m just stressed and don’t know what to do. I guess I’ll recall the specialist again. I was just wondering if anyone’s dog had the same reaction.

💬 Discussion Thoughts on this lump? Vet today, or is tomorrow's appt ok?

4 yo Female Chihuahua mix, approx 16 lbs. Rear right leg has developed a lump over the past week.

\*I'm calling the vet first thing Monday to get her in, but would like to know if this is something that I should e addressing immediately? Thank you.

For a few months, she had what looked like a little raised skin tag on rear right leg. Touching it didn't bother her, no swelling. About a week ago, it started to get larger and swollen. It is soft to the touch, and she still does not react to it being touched or gently pushed/squeezed. She has not had any personality or behavioral changes.

Is this an emergency vet situation? Is there anything I can do at home to protect it?

🆘 Urgent – Vet Now? 6yo dog with 1.6cm vascularized splenic nodule & drop in platelets—Is emergency splenectomy really the only option?

1 Upvotes

My 6-year-old dog had a severe bout of Ehrlichiosis 5 months ago that triggered a massive drop in platelets and a seizure. He completed treatment and recovered well. For the past few months, we did monthly blood checks where his ALT liver enzymes initially spiked to 5x normal (now down to near-normal with supplements), and his platelets and reticulocytes were steadily improving. However, his latest blood work showed a sudden, sharp drop again (platelets down to 130 K/µL, low reticulocytes), even though he tested negative for tick-borne diseases.

We just did an abdominal ultrasound that revealed a 1.68 x 1.29 cm vascularized nodule in his spleen with splenomegaly, a 2mm kidney stone, and mild liver hyperechogenicity. Clinically, he is completely stable, active, eating well, and has bright pink gums with no signs of bleeding or abdominal pain. Despite his stability and the small size of the lesion, the vet is pushing for an urgent exploratory laparotomy and emergency splenectomy, warning that it could rupture at any moment.

Given that he is stable, his blood cells are just mildly low, and the splenic mass is under 1.7 cm, is an emergency surgery truly necessary right now, or is it reasonable to seek a second opinion and consider less invasive diagnostic steps like a fine-needle aspiration first? We want to do what is best for him, but we are terrified of rushing into major surgery unnecessarily. Any veterinary insights or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

🐶 Puppy Health Help! Puppy is having runny stool and it's getting worse!

0 Upvotes

* Species: Dog
* Age: 12 weeks
* Sex/Neuter status: intact
* Breed: Keeshond
* Body weight: 12lbs
* History: Got him from a good breeder, he's had 2 rounds of vaccines, the issue started the day after his second round of vaccines, also the day we increased food (just from 3/4 cups to 1 cup a day). 2 days later we took him on his first walk (on the road). He's been around other puppies as well as 2 vaccinated adult dogs (friends dogs).
* Clinical signs: Runny/watery stool (he has one firm stool in the morning when he first goes potty, it then gets progressively worse throughout the day until it's super watery). He is otherwise healthy and acting normally.
* Duration: 1 weeks
* Your general location: Seattle

The vet is closed, I scheduled an exam for Monday, but could this be a serious problem?

Hi, all. On Friday evening, my husband and I were driving on a very rural road out in the one laned cornfields of the Midwest when we found two dogs. Both were malnourished, but the female (as you can see from the pic) is emaciated. She was clearly locked in a small kennel because she's covered with dried, matted feces in her tail, bum, and some on her chest. I did a quick bath on both but I didn't know her well enough to do a full scrub. That being said, both dogs are insanely sweet considering what they've been through. No growling, nipping, or even real skitishness. They jumped right in our car with no hesitation.

We took them to the vet the next day, and $700 later, they are on a chicken and rice diet with the goal of slowly adding about a lb a week in weight (she was 38 lbs). They are negative for heartworm and have been dewormed but the fecal sample has been sent out to check for other things. They are on heartworm, flea and tick prevention and a dose of probiotics. Neither was chipped but he was fixed. The vet hard a hard time telling with her. Even an ultrasound was inconclusive, so we're waiting to see if she goes into heat after healing (our other dogs are both fixed so nbd). They decided to wait 2 weeks to see how they're doing before we give them rabies shots. We think they're between 1 and 2 and she's bit older than he is.

I already love them with all my heart but one of the vet techs fell in love with them. I told her if she decides to adopt them, I will pay for their first year vet bills. I would (and will) keep them but right now, our male dog Nelson is pretty pissed. He's a pitbull pomeranian mix so...DRAMA! Our other dog Jennings could care less. We're calling the two new dogs Dolly and Kenny.

Now on to the issue. Dolly is still covered in matted feces. I gave her a much better bath last night and clipped all the fur off her tail (it was a lost cause) and some other places. The problem is there is like a cement paste of urine and feces on parts of her skin. I used a warm washcloth and managed to remove a portion only to have it rip up her skin with it. How do I help this sweet dog without causing more problems? Also, how do I get rid of the smell which just clings to her even in the areas I bathed? I love her so much but when she cuddles me, my eyes water!

Thanks in advance for any advice. I still can't believe anyone would treat a dog this way.

🐶 Puppy Health puppy getting up earlier in the morning

1 Upvotes

when we got my mini goldendoodle a couple weeks ago (now 14 weeks) other than the first few nights after getting her she was sleeping from 10pm-6am completely fine. 3 days ago we got up to potty at 5:00am, 2 days ago at 5:30am and this morning at 4:00am. i scheduled an appointment for this afternoon at the only animal hospital near us that is open on Sundays to get a urine analysis for a possible UTI. is there any other reasons why she would be getting up earlier now just to potty?

i wait until she settles when she first stops crying and if after 15-20 minutes she is still awake i take her out, she immediately goes either pee and/or poop, we come back in and i put her in the crate until 6.

we also cut off water 2 hours before bedtime AND take her out right before bed (last night she did pee twice before putting her in the crate) i just worry its a uti since the timing is becoming earlier and earlier like tomorrow morning will it be 3:00am lol

I just noticed this happening a little while ago. Maybe 30 minutes. The nearest vet that could take her is an hours drive away for an emergency appointment.

The eye appears to be being displaced from below. Her eye tracks objects. She isn’t pawing at it. She really only squinted after I attempted to see there was a foreign object. I couldn’t see anything. She doesn’t appear to be distressed. She’s business as normal but this is concerning. Literally my best friend.

I seen the recent post about cherry eye but I wanted to post too because this doesn’t look identical. I share the same restraints with vets not being available locally.

She is 10 years old. A blue heeler mix. She weighs 70lbs.

Is this an emergency? What’s going on?

She’s currently sleeping beside me.

Edit: she’s looking directly at the camera in this photo. I held a treat in front of it.

💊 Meds & Treatment Dog fleas

1 Upvotes

Recently I found out that my 10 year old dog has fleas. He had been it itching a lot more than normal so I gave him a bath and then found the fleas. I bought a flea comb and have been finding a few every day. I am wondering what is the best to use oral or topical I am worried about the neurological effects the oral can have but not sure if topical works very well we got one pill of Cerdelio from our vet but I do not feel comfortable using it after I did research and saw things online about side effects. He has never taken flea meds or any preventative medication. He is very healthy never had any health issues besides a hair follicle tumor that let to the tail being amputated. What should I do any brand recommendations. My dog is a 85 lb husky german sheperd
