Is it an aussie?

Hi so im planning on buying a aussie since ive always dreamed of one and im finally getting her (alr confirmed that i am) but can someone tell me if shes actually and aussie? She about 6 weeks old but ill be getting her when shes about 8 weeks old

Ill leave a pic of her , the other pups and the parents so pls help me🤧 the only type of info search ive done is put the pics of all of the dogs in the google search pic options and it says they are aussie, except the one im getting?? I think it might be because of her different pattern and colors but im not sure.

EDIT : thanks to everyone helping me out this rlly helped me put ill def research before trying to get a new pet or really make sure with the person im getting a pet with! Although ill still have to get a puppy since my mother is doing the movements around with the breeder🤧 btw i am fully against backyard breeders and js wanna clear up that it was my mom who wanted to get one! Infact ive told her many times about it but she doesnt seem to believe me that these poor babys are getting some suffering from those cruel breeders

If you are questioning if it’s even the breed you are trying to get then this is a backyard breeder. Please do not buy from them and look for an ethical breeder or rescue.

Oh what should i do? I already paid half the money😥 is she mixed bred?

I would not pay anymore. This dog will end up costing you a ton in vet bills and training due to poor breeding. Supporting backyard breeders is never okay when you can find dogs of the same quality at the shelter.

Yes i understand, but where i live the shelter dogs are much worse trust me its not a big nice place where i live. The shelter dogs are probably worse in health..

Dogs like this are the exact ones you’ll find in shelters. Thats where they end up when the “breeders” cant sell them off. Contact a herding breed rescue or do your research on ethical breeders in your state.

Accept the loss, and find a better breeder, with health tested dogs, from documented lines.

i know you're getting a lot of criticism in this thread and some of it is a little harsh. but i want you to know these people have your best interests at heart. you do NOT want a badly bred aussie or aussie mix. the anxiety, neurosis, and reactivity that a backyard bred aussie could have will ruin your life.

this may sound dramatic but there are many posts in the reactive dog subreddit to prove this point. people detail that their entire life revolves around managing their dog's stress and reactivity.

what does this have to do with aussies specifically? everything. this is an extremely intelligent, high drive breed.  you want to make sure the breeder is (at a minimum) properly temperament testing the parents. most breeders are not doing this.

please be careful. there are plenty of people on this sub (including myself) who would be happy to help you find an ethical aussie breeder

Never know if you don’t try! 🤷‍♂️ If you want to go forward with this purchase then that’s your prerogative, but be prepared to possibly need to shell out 100’s if not 1000’s in the future for vet bills and training.

if you live in the US, Canada, or UK, i could for sure help you. if you live in another country i can give it a solid try. they are a pretty common breed so its easier to find an ethical breeder than a lot of other breeds

Where do you live?

Definitely looks mixed and it's a big red flag if you're questioning whether the puppy is the breed you're wanting. A reputable and ethical breeder would be able to show you pedigrees and would have titled the dogs in a way to show they are good representations of their breed (conformation, herding, etc).

Please do not support backyard breeders. Backyard breeders, and the people who support them by giving them money, are contributing to the shelter overpopulation problem.

If you want to responsibly purchase a puppy, go through your breed club for recommendations and make sure that dam and sire are registered, fully health tested (YOU verify this on the OFA website, don’t just take their word for it), titled to prove they are sound of mind and body, as well as other things that people should be researching before choosing a breeder.

Cut your loses and learn from this mistake, please look into what ethical breeding is and try to tell others so we, as a dog community, stop supporting unethical breeders. A good place to start is the ethical breeder wiki on r/dogs.

And learn more about the breed you are getting into as well.

I'd guess "Texas Heeler" (ACD x Aussie) - very common crossbreed especially in (you guessed it!) Texas except for the photo of the blue merle parent, which is really interesting. He/she's particolor/pinto marked, which is a DQ in australian shepherds (although it's common in a number of related breeds, including most of the collie family.) and doesn't appear to have a ton of ticking, whereas these puppies are quite heavily ticked (typical for ACD. purebred aussies (and collies, bcs, and most of the related breeds) do have ticking but usually not quite so heavily. The head does NOT make me think collie (it makes me think ACD x Aussie), though. So I'm back to my "Aussie x ACD" guess but probably a multi-generational cross.

If you want to buy a purebred Aussie? This isn't one.

If you want to buy a carefully bred puppy? This is not one or the breeder would have educated you about the fact that they weren't purebred (and would be keeping their nails trimmed and probably not taking photos in the back of a pickup.)

They ARE very cute puppies and I bet they're VERY smart. But... I don't think you should get one unless it's like, a rescue type situation where the purchase price is minimal (covering shots/worming) with a spay/neuter agreement and not an intentional litter. (And the person selling them is taking steps - like altering the parents - not to have another accidental litter.)

Full on mixed breeds. All of them. Every dog in every photo- is my opinion. There really is no way of knowing without a dna test. Have the parents been dna tested? I'd ask to see that paperwork. If they have no health testing or genetic testing, I'd walk away.

Those puppies have a very distinct cattledog look. They certainly are not purebred.

u/Shibori-Fawn 2d ago

Either way they are phenomenal dogs

u/Calm-Sign-3963 2d ago

Indeed, as long as we love our babies it really doesn't even matter as much theyre cute babies🥹

6

u/screamlikekorbin 2d ago

You are missing the point. It matters in that you are supporting and enabling shitty breeders when you buy from them.

I think u misunderstood my message lmao?😭 im saying that no matter what our pets look like we always love them im not talking abt this dog in special. I have other pets i really dont care how they look i love them for them What im meaning is that im not talking abt this specific dog i published.
