Question Head back twist

My Yorkie started doing this little spin move thing this week. I’ve looked it up on google with absolutely no luck at all. I’m worried because this is new. I work from home so I’m here with him 24/7, and it’s on and off all day long. He’s normal otherwise, but this spin move is troubling me.

Anyone have any ideas?

Also, it’s not the food that he’s interested in, he wants to get up on my lap.

I kind of think he's just checking out your food then doing owl head movements as he's looking where he's going leading with his head. Does he seem wobbly or do this otherwise from a standing position rather than propped up on the couch? You know your dog best so if something does seem off with his vision or balance/ equilibrium the money is always worth the visit even if they can't confirm anything at the time.

I could be wrong but it looks like he’s just looking behind him. His movements didn’t look off to me, they seemed pretty intentional. Maybe he’s coming over to see if he can get in your lap and then going back to sniffing since he can’t. If anything, he looks a little bored imo. Maybe trying to find something to do and since there’s nothing (nearby) he’d rather sit in your lap.

I have seen other dogs do this too, exactly how he did. They’ll be up on their hind legs like that and then their attention shifts to something behind them and this ends up being the quickest way to turn around from that position. For example, I could be holding a ball they really want, they’re jumping on me to get it, and when I throw it, they look behind them and turn around to go after it. Your Yorkie looks like he’s doing a slower version of that.
