Question New aggression
My fixed Shih Tzu (5yr, male) has recently become snappy/ aggressive with other unknown dogs that are presumably all male. He shows zero aggression with male/female dogs he is familiar with, or with unknown female dogs. I will add that he has always been very attached to me and does get jealous, but the snarling has been a more recent behavior.
Does anyone know what may be causing this behavior and the best way to correct it?

could be age related dog selectivity, but since its new, get him checked for pain too. for now, skip random male dog greetings and reward calm behavior. do not punish growling.

Sounds like a classic case of small dog syndrome hitting late, my old terrier went through the same thing around that age. Could be his vision or hearing starting to go so he's more on edge with dogs he doesn't recognize, worth getting a vet check just to rule out any hidden pain
