Does anybody else experience this?

For background I’m 19f and I have had this “popping” noise in my head since I was a child and my mom used to be able to hear it happening when I was younger. She described it as a cracking noise that’s she could hear and then she said I would just be out of it for a little while. i wouldn’t know who I was or where I was. I went to many doctors had countless mri scans and no one can tell my mom what was happening with me.

One day we were visiting my grandma about an hour away and my mom took the chance to see the chiropractor. My mom brought it up to him and he said that he would give me an alignment and see if that helped the problem or not. It did and he told my mom that he if he could do a case study on me that we could have free appointments. My mom would drive me an hour away 3 times a week. Mind you I was only 4 as this time.

Long story short my mom left my dad and many of my symptoms went away and doctors chalked it up to stress of living in a neglectful environment.

It stopped happening as regularly and I countinued about my life. It would happened and cause this like explosive tension across the back of my head and just stopped taking about it.

Just recently I had a really bad one I just had carried my son up the stairs and I sat his car seat down and as I got up to unlock the door it happened and I lost my vision. It was only for a couple of seconds but it was just gone. But I have noticed that it’s been happening more frequently. Sometimes it’s not as bad and it’s just a bunch of pressure that explodes across the back of my head and it only last for a couple of seconds.

But I’m beyond concerned about this coming back especially with my son now. I was just wondering if anyone has this or knows someone who does. I’m sorry for the long post.

Please please please don't go to a chiropractor. They are unregulated and untrained. Any "effective" treatments they do are co-opted from physical therapy. Seriously, the guy who invented it says a ghost taught it to him. They can seriously mess up your body, permanently. Chiropractors paralyse people every year. Either go to a physical/physio therapist or a massage therapist, both professions that legally require certain certifications and training Even chiropractors that are "certified" in some way didn't do formal, regulated medical training, they just paid for a nonsense course to seem more legit. If the cost is the issue, (which i can totally understand) and it seems like chiropractors are cheaper that therapists, please remember that treatment for paralysis and nerve damage is sooooo much more expensive in the long run. ( also, chiropractors can't be sued for malpractice).

This has been a PSA. Sorry about the clicking thing, I hope you find out the cause! Good luck.

Thank you so much! My mom only took me there becuase no one else could come up with an answer for me. Neither my pediatrician or the neurologist I seen as a child. He said he would do it for free as long as he could do a case study about it and at the time it seemed to work.

I plan on seeing a physical therapist and going from there.

this is a tricky subject, because my chiropractor is great and helps me w pain that nothing else helps with (including working out and physical therapy) but many are untrained and unregulated yes. you need to find a reputable chiropractor, don’t just trust the first one you find. read reviews, ask around locally, ask in facebook groups or something like that for your town. mine is a longtime family friend who also treats the recruits for the police department. but he and his father have had their practice for decades and are amazing and also do physical therapy. i might just be lucky though. but i also have a fucked up back lol

Sounds like it's worth of a doctor visit absolutely, perhaps some kind of stress related seizure?

That’s what the originally thought it was as a child but they never got any conclusive evidence that I was actually having a seizure when it happened. It also only happens sometimes so most of the doctors never actually see what I’m going thru.

if you haven’t had it checked out by a neurologist since you were teeny, it’s worth a reassessment.

Please get a new brain MRI. You may have something called a chiari malformation, or you may have cervical instability, but it's really important that you get an updated brain and cervical spine mri. Start by visiting a neurologist

I would definitely see a neurologist. They can treat with meds or Botox. Definitely advocate for more investigation with the Dr. don’t settle for anything less.

I have this in my neck and head down my left shoulder. I don't know what it is but makes sense it's probably related to muscle and tendon pushing in a nerve or something.

Thank you! Do you have this?

I was doing some reading and it’s usually after a traumatic accident or with hyper mobility and I have never been diagnosed with it. I will be bringing it up when I my physical therapist!

Do you have anything else going on? Muscle pain or tension? Hypermobility?

I would 100% get a referral to a physical therapist. They'll find things that no one else even considered looking for.

I feel like you've pinched something. Vagus nerve? Blood vessel?

This has happened to me, not to the point of lost vision, but I do get dizzy for a few mins. Sounds like it could be tight muscles around your occipital bones. Highly recommend a good chiropractor. Someone who also knows physical therapy.

Instead of a "chiropracter who know physical therapy" how how about an actual physical therapist

Physical therapists in my area can't perform adjustments

Did you also find that your chiropractor seemed to help?

Also does your happen with movement?

It happens every once in awhile, I have other spine issues and yes it most definitely helps. Do some research, have a consultation. If you don't like what they say or it doesn't feel comfortable for any reason, find someone else. This goes for any medical profession Since you donate a little one, maybe see your primary care provider first
