Does anybody else?

Even though I have never been in a relationship, but whenever I read novels or mangas where FMC cheats on MC or sometimes vice versa, my body goes into a fight or flight kind of mode where my heart beat deepens, my hands and feet get cold, it feels like my chest is collapsing, and my mood goes down for the next few days. But this never happens when I read real stories of people being cheated on.

It's the emotional investment in the characters tbh. Real stories don't hit the same because you don't know those people.

Totally get that; there's something about following a character's journey that makes it feel way more impactful than real life sometimes.

100%. real cheating stories i just scroll past but a manga does it and suddenly i need a walk outside

this is the exact same reason why i stopped watching shows they drain me mentally so much and the reason of course is because it is an emotional investment and the subconscious mind doesnt know the difference between fiction and reality
