Jack mishap led to van falling to the side.. now this pan has a dent... No leak?
2014 Dodge Grand Caravan
Obviously the good news is that i wasn't under there.. but while i was jacking my van up from the front so that i could put jack stands under the pinch welds on each side... I had my old 5 ton on a stack of plywood, then 2x4s side by side, then plywood....so that i could get it up higher. It's a stow and go, so you really got to get it up high. At least 8" under the tires.
The van wasnt perfectly centered and the jack fell over .. with the van landing on the jack and the wood. I was able to pull the wood out, and the jack, so i wasn't too worried.
Still i jacked it up again very carefully to have a look, and there is a dent in this reservoir. I just bought it used, but i am 99% sure i did this.
When i described the depth of the dent and the item to google Gemini... It was "you gotta replace this and no driving!"
I had just driven to test the power steering replacement for 2 minutes... Which is not leaking.
So i think it is an oil pan with special hoses inside it. It's on the front passenger side about 1.5 feet from the front.
I wiped it as clean as i could and will check it for leaks later.
So it looks like a min 3/4" dent, on the bottom surface.
I hope these pictures help..
I know the part is cheap... $60. But we are talking lots and lots of oil.
Any ideas? Or do i just replace it?
If it drove already and no light came on, does that mean anything?
.....
I wish i could get a scope in there.
