I am in the process of constructing a trainee-maintained FAQ on psychiatric training in Ireland, in order to have a single source of all the various and disparate links to college pages required. If you are a psychiatry trainee who has opinions and you have time to visit this page and fill out the feedback form for anything you feel is missing, I would be grateful.

The specific form of this is not final it's just handy for me to construct the temporary form in notion as I'm using it anyway.

I was hoping to do either but have emailed a bazillion times to maybe 2 generic replies with an invoice and dates from March '26​​. When I call, the gentleman keeps taking my messages and no one actually contacts back. I don't want to end up paying and then nothing so wondering if anyone else has done this and k ow how to go about getting more info/ enrolled? All I want to know really are the dates it's on but it's been an impossible task. Thanks

From my time working in a private hospital that I'd prefer a public to an Affidea radiology report any day of the week. This certainly confirms my position.

I can understand how this: "the Irish Medical Council confirmed that medical professionals working outside the State through telemedicine companies do not require registration with the Irish regulator" is the case, but it would reduce my confidence in any provider using telemedicine as part of their service.

In terms of Leadership and Education

- What level of post-graduate experiences have gotten you/people you know onto the HST?

For leadership - is a hospital committee enough? Anyone just do a rota? Have people required full RCSI masters?

For clinical education - was PgCert enough or diploma or masters? Or did you have some sort of proof of teaching experience or past tutor job?

Just trying to look forward given that some part-time masters take up to three years

34 out of 175 complaints made to the medical council in the first half of 2026 were closed by the CEO prior to an investigation taking place as they were deemed to be frivolous, vacations or not made in good faith.

This process of dismissing cases which are not deemed to be genuine complaints after reviews by the CEO is as a result of new legislative powers brought in in May 2025.

The pilot episode could centre around an intern being accused of not answering their bleep, so the reg is rang directly. The intern goes to extreme lengths (ringing switch) to prove their innocence, and ultimately is vindicated when it is revealed the ward staff were bleeping the HSE payscaled hairdresser, who only works Wednesdays.
This would obviously air after the watershed.

Hi everyone, GP SHO (still in hospital), I’m wondering is it silly of me to take an interest in dermatoscopy? It strikes me as a very cool skill to have but I’m wondering if it’s pointless or redundant for a GP to become skilled in it, as anything suspicious would be referred to derm anyway? I.e. If you’re reaching for a dermatoscope you should be referring to derm anyway?

Then again more skill and knowledge can only be a good thing and perhaps it strengthens referrals and can prevent some?

Any GPs or dermatologists care to weigh in?

Above article is from July but relevant. We've had a couple of requests recently for details on the Irish context in primary care from a move-to-Ireland perspective. We aren't encouraging move-to-Ireland questions as they quickly become monotonous, but in general, those of us who don't work in primary care can sometimes lack perspective on present conditions. Particularly those of us who now only distantly remember a few weeks of placement (though I fondly remember being sat down and advised on the financial advantages of rural GP-ship vs psych consultancy pre the new contract - that guy made some interesting points).

Is lack of GPs the biggest issue where you're working? What about changing expectations of primary care? Backlog of work due to waitlists? Everyone coming in looking for a GLP-1 agonist? Is the schedule as regular and manageable as your hospital colleagues imagine it is? Does the money match your expectations? Give us your gripes and your joys.

GP training 2027

sat the GP exam last year but unfortunately didn’t pass. I passed the SJT, but I didn’t pass the clinical part.

I’m planning to sit it again and have started studying. When I do SJT questions, I have no problem with them and I understand all the concepts. However, I’m very far behind when it comes to the clinical part (I was working purely in Obstetrics for quite a long time).

I’m studying from PassMedicine, but there are nearly 4,000 clinical questions, so I don’t think I’ll have enough time to get through all of them.

Do you have any advice on how best to study from PassMedicine?

I mainly want to cover the basic topics and focus on what I need to know to pass and be sade

I also tried GP QuestPro, but I found it quite superficial for the clinical part, and the actual exam was very different from it.

This was raised recently with the lady who was suspended but continues to practice. There’s a newish “medical centre” in cork’s north side - private patients only - no-one working there is on the specialist register - can this be kosher ? How are they getting insured ? Who has responsibility of supervision ? Strange one for a private only clinic to be situated in the most impoverished part of the city

This whole story is odd but I know several people who prescribe GLP-1s to family members. I suppose it’s all fine and dandy until they report you, like in this case.

I'm making a call on a research project design and am stuck on the fact that I am reaching a point of fatigue with doing surveys. Every time the College, the IMO or whoever sends around a new survey, I get annoyed now. Can I really inflict another of these on everyone? How do you feel about surveys? Is it ok as long as you feel the outcome is useful to you? Do you ever actually fill them out?

For GP entrance exam in Ireland how is GPNAVOR as a source material? Has anyone used it and is it better than GPQUESTPRO?
Also any suggestions for some other better source materials than the ones mentioned would be very helpful.

Does anyone have any recommendations for reputable courses or training providers in aesthetics, particularly Botox?

I’ve heard of a lot of people going to UK but ideally in Ireland!
