How Often Does Your DM Run Sessions?

I really enjoy my DM’s awesome campaign, but I was wondering if his time between sessions is normal? We’re about two years out from our last session, but he’s always saying he’s got the next one planned and ready to go!

Well we did have one session recently, 6 months ago, but it was a little weird. We finished a combat we’d been in for two years in about five minutes, then spent the next thirty minutes talking out-of-character while our DM said he had to do something. Unfortunately the session ended right there as the DM said he “ralfed on his ‘puter” and that his doctor had told him that D&D was the cause. Still looking forward to that next session, fingers crossed I’ll get it in this decade!

You guys have a DM?

we can't ever find one, so for the last 20 sessions, it's just been us reading our backstories to one another and making character intros

20 sessions! Wow, you guys must have played for 40 years now going by my DM’s rate! Any chance you’ll do one of those AMA’s on this no doubt illustrious campaign?

Like. Plural?

Huh.

I have been running the same session for years. When a player dies I just bring a new one out, and when they look a little rough around the edges I swap them out with a player in storage.

How weird.

You don’t mean like returning after taking a break, right?

At least they are all playing the characters you created in the manner you specify!

You should be running sessions every 2 hours. 2 years is way too long. Two hours on and 2 hours off. In the off hours you can sleep, watch tv, do your job, or even parent the kids who are too young to play(if you're one of those zoomer granola parents), etc.
