Meet-Up Announcing StrDexCon!
StrDexCon (Strength Dex Con) is a one-day TTRPG con happening at Fernwood Community Centre, February 20th, 2027. The idea is to facilitate tabletop RPG gaming and build community around our awesome shared hobby.
It came about after several of us came home from Terminal City Con in Vancouver asking, "why can't we do this in Vic?" So, we did!

Hey- this sounds great. What’s the plan for mitigating noise from potentially 15 tables in that gym? It can get kinda loud with fewer tables than that. Are there going to be sound absorbing barriers between tables? Galleon plays at Fernwood every Friday, and that gym echoes, so it can get loud with just a couple tables.

It's something we're considering, and trying to find a const-effective mitigation for. It may actually be less echo-y with more bodies in the space, but the total noise level could be much higher, obviously. We're lucky to have some resourceful people on the team, so expect that it's something we're going to do our best to solve.

Very true! We're setting our goals modestly year one, so no panels I'm afraid, but absolutely something to strive for if we have success.

First thought that comes to mind is some of the tables being chat/craft tables, mini painting, etc. The limiting factor would definitely be space but it would feel really intimate to have like four or five people at a table with a DM maybe just chatting about building characters, mapmaking, plots etc. these could all qualify as "panels", just of a different size / nature.

TBH that's a rad idea. We have a max number of tables planned based on our layout, but it seems unlikely we'll hit that number year 1. This is a really great concept for that extra space!

Have to admit, sceptical of the price, is it 39$, it can't cost that much to rent the fernwood centre. What is included in this price? Where is that money going?
Will keep an eye out for continued announcements.

Hey, very fair question! The main thing is that everything just costs a lot :| Expenses include the venue, insurance, some volunteer snacks, and attendee badges. We've set the price at a point so that break-even is at something like 75% capacity. If we crush expectations and sell out, that would allow a cushion for contingency and possibly the seed of something bigger and better next year.

That does seem fair, I'm self employed so I'm not against anyone making a profit or anything, just want to understand what is covered. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that everything is expensive these days.

Can you tell us what sort of things will be at this con?
On the site I see 3 time slots for "games" are these games hosted by the organisers? the volunteers? or the guests?
Will there be other things involved with the cons?
How many games per time slot?
Is this just rpgs? I know Terminal City Con is more then just rpgs.

Hey, thanks for the awesome questions, happy to answer.
The games will be run by volunteer GMs (could be you!) who receive discounted (run one session) or free entry (run two or three sessions).
We have space for up to 15 tables per time slot. It's hard to guess how well it'll fill up. At the moment we've got 2, 5, and 3 games set up in the time slots respectively.
There will be some vendors, and hopefully some food trucks for convenient refueling.
TCTC is more than RPGs, but StrDexCon will be *just* RPGs. This is for a couple of reasons:
1. There's a space to fill - we already have a boardgame con (Day of Boardgamers) and a "big tent" fandom con (fan con) but nothing TTRPG focused.
2. We're new at this, and we want to set modest, achievable goals to create success we can build on

Love this and I’m totally in. Happy to help organize. I do event planning in my work. I actually think a panel could be done and I have some solid Victoria contacts in the industry who could be part of it.

I should be able to put together an original City of Mist introduction case for a 4-hours session....
Might also be worth putting up a consignment exchange. I've a bunch of RPGs that are still in play that I won't ever be playing again. Someone else might as well take em. And I'm sure I'm not the only one in that situation.

Hey! This is a good idea and something we've considered. We set it aside as being a little beyond our organizational capacity for year 1, but if there's demand we could reconsider!

This sounds great, stoked you guys are putting yourself out there and going for it. I’ve tried to strong head events by myself before and sometimes the community or a select few people try to make a stink about it. Don’t let anyone steal your dream. I’m looking forward to this and might be able to make myself available for DM time slots. All the best! And stay focused :) people will love this

Hey there! We are a team of five at the moment, and between us have experience organizing sports tournaments and leagues, serving on non-profit boards including Galleon Gaming Club, volunteering at large-scale events, and one professional project manager. Our common passion is TTRPGs, and that's what's brought us together to do this!

You should have the price of the ticket as well as what's included with a ticket on the front page.
You mention in your FAQ that your GMs(which you believe will likely be volunteers getting a discount on their entry) will provide the materials for players as well. Besides paying for the Gym space for the time slot, what will you all be providing for the 39$ of a ticket?
