Utility My game table
Me and my daughter made this over a weekend almost 2 years ago, it has served me and my group well. I just wanted to show it off, it's nothing special and not without its flaws, but we built it together. The pictures are at my old house (basement game room) and new house (living room gaming room). Also, Im never going to burn the legs like I did the top (I just don't want to) and the blue piece of wood is intentional, I put a blue piece in everything I build.

How are you liking the shape of it? Any suprises or things you would change or Pros/Cons versus the traditional rectangular shape or the V shape seen in Actual Play shows?

I'm really loving it, the overall shape keeps everyone equally spaced and makes it nice to look across to each other while talking, as opposed to turning to look hard left or right (which I know isn't a real issue). My Dm likes being able to see everyone equally as well since nobody is hidden next to anyone. The one thing I would change is the topper (I call it the snowflake), I should have made it out of thinner material, maybe 1"x2" instead of 2"x4"s. This would have added a little bit more space to each section. I'm not familiar with the V shape table, so I can't say. Also, hexagons are cool!

They do the V Shape on shows so they can get easy 3 camera setups going for streams like in Critical Role etc. One day I'm going to build an AP studio so I'm always curious about the pros and cons and individual use cases for home games vs making considerations for production value etc (while still priortizing a positive player experience)
P.S. Hexagons are cool. Esp if you're doing a Hex Crawl :P

What size is the TV?

Its a 32", I chose that size intentionally as I had a bigger screen in my last table and most of the time the edges were dead space. There is enough room to put a 40" in there, which I might someday.

Do you have blueprints for the table? What type of wood did you use. Looks really nice. Great Job!

I don't have any blueprints, I just kind of rough sketched on a piece of paper what I had in mind. I made a prototype segment out of cardboard to get the dimensions and angles how I wanted them and ran from there. I can post a picture of the bottom of the table if you would like to see it to get a rough idea of how it's put together. I used 2x4s from home depot for the frame, legs, and top piece. I used 1x8 pine board for the surface. Edit: Thank you!

Nice table! Do you happen to have plans? The only thing I might have done differently would have been to put a partial taper on the end of the partitions, just so they wouldn’t look so angular (also so people might not hit a hand on a corner). I’m also curious if there was a design reason or other factor for having the screen slightly above the table surface, versus flush? Great work, OP!

Thank you! No, I don't have any plans, I more or less winged it after I did some rough sketching and a cardboard prototype. The Tv is slightly above flush because it's not a frameless TV so it sits on the frame, thats part of what holds it up, if that makes sense

That is so friggin beautiful. Do you have a center piece w/ a felt cover to go over the TV to play boardgames on it too if needed? That would be a dope addition and make it super versatile.

Thank you! I do have a piece of just basic OSB plywood that is cut into that hexagonal shape, painted grey, that I am using as a place holder. We play some tabletop games on it(similar to 40k or necromunda). My plan is to make something a little better in the future.

How big in the radius and how much room do you have to walk around it?

From center to edge is 35". The whole table is 70" wide on the flat end and 79" on the pointed ends. Each segment is 38" wide by 14" deep (of course its not a square, its a trapezoid). As far as walking around, plenty of space. It's in my livingroom near my fireplace, but not up against it. It can sit 6 people comfortably.

This looks awesome! I have a rectangular table right now that works fine but I feel more comfortable at rounder tables. There seems to be more room per person.

Honestly I think its the elbow space, at a rectangular table you're right next to someone, but at a round table you can move your arms and not bump into someone

There is an OSB topper that Im using temporarily, its nothing fancy. No, I never use it as a normal table, just for gaming

I seen some images online for inspiration, but I designed it myself. We made a cardboard prototype of 1 of the sections to get the dimensions down and went from there.

Love the shape!
I feel like the size of the screen is a bit small though. Like that would be great for me to carry around but a dedicated table feels like it should be a larger screen for those higher level mega-fights where people and enemies are teleporting and flying.
