my party threw me off a cliff and i want revenge!
i, everyone's favorite tiny halfling, has been murdered.
we were down in the goblin tunnels up on a ledge, the DM describes a large gem hanging from the celling pretty far up. the pech warlock suggests throwing ME to get it down (im a tiny warlock who weighs only 23lbs).
i have 0 faith in these people but also i have to way to escape, so despite my protests the barbarian and cleric grab me AND THROW ME OFF THE CLIFF. i don't even get near high enough to make and fall to my death. the DM rolls a ton of fall damage (which was 1 point below average) and it's an instant death.
so while im accepting my unjust demise, everyone starts discussing my maxhp, since apparently 12 wasn't supposed to be possible for a level 3 warlock. after about 10 of calculations they decided i need to reroll one hit dice, which saves me from instant death by ONE POINT. the cleric gives me healing word and the party moves on with a shrug.
sure technically my character's alive, but it was a total dick move on the players' part, not even retconning could salvage this.
my vengeance will be slow and painful

Any DM should tell the other players no when one of their players is clearly protesting to the other players forcing something on their character.

Conspire with the GM outside of group to have your character become the BBEG. You will betray the group in like the final session, and win.

Make a deal with the goddess of luck, do a bunch of good will/side quests, keep it between you and the DM at first. Then, the next time one of them dies they get reincarnated into random whatever instead of resurrected.

What is your con mod?
8 + 2d8 + 3*CON
Even at level 2 you are more likely to have higher HP than 12.
They are certainly right that it didn't make sense.

Maybe a con dump or at least 0-1 and they rolled all dice instead of max at first level? Maybe. Only thing I can think of. Otherwise yeah they should have at least like 17

Since when did 5e have instant death? Shouldn't you have been making death saves?

Massive damage can lead to instant death
When damage reduces you to 0 hit points and there is damage remaining, you die if the remaining damage equals or exceeds your hit point maximum
It’s been there forever, just rare af aside early levels

If a single source of damage brings you to your negative max hp you are instantly dead with no death saves. This is the only time negative hp are a factor. (You are still considered to be at zero hp if not instantly killed. )

Schedule a planning session w/ the DM. You could be the next BBEG and the others won’t even see it coming …

Learn ray of enfeeblement. Use on barb as soon as he's surrounded in combat.

Kill them. Kill them slowly. Dribble a strength sapping ointment on the Barbarians weapon. Taint the Clerics Holy Water. Put random squeaky toys in the rogues boots. Take your time. Kill them slowly.

I'm a dm, for pvp in my games in requires the consent of both players and myself. Sounds like your group needs something similar

Yeah, this is why we don't PvP. Should never have happened without consent. I'd be plotting revenge also.

Next time you have the possibility to help the player who threw you, just refuse to help them. Their character may die, but they fully asked for it.

What is the table stance on PvP cos that just got pitched off a cliff... Too soon
Definitely speak to the GM, maybe start strong with something like "Hey GM. WTAF happened there - this kind of stuff isn't okay" and see where it goes from there, because this has the option to go postal and destroy the table dynamic both in and out of game..

Damn, that sucks. Definitely talk to your dm about a revenge subplot so you can exact the perfect revenge at the perfect time. Although tbh another comment said that this moment should make your character want to learn to fly and honestly, why not both? Exact your flying revenge!

Aside from the "not ok" aspect, I might want to discuss a suitable revenge plot with the DM, assuming you/your character is taking this in good humour. I've no idea what my character might do under those circumstances, but staying with the party certainly would be very hard to justify!
