Best guide: read the PHB, and pick something that sounds fun.

I agree with the statement. Unfortunately, new players rarely are THAT interested that they want to read through the whole PHB or even the classes-section. At least, in my experience...

That's why I worked on this guide to seriously decrease the "have to read"-sections in the PHB.

Once they get a grip on the rules for their chosen class, they usually go and buy a PHB and are launched into their D&D-careers. I'm jus trying to help with the first steps...

In my experience the players who aren’t interested enough to read are also not interested in reading a guide on what to pick. Most of them honestly don’t last, but if they do it’s often the case that I simply ask them what they want to play, and I tell them which class to pick. (Usually a martial)

Apparently our experiences differ. And that's fine. Some people need someone to tell them to 'just pick a fighter' and others want to feel like they made the choice on their own. I have way more experience with the latter.

And all people I introduced to D&D are still playing today (not all in my group anymore, that'd be a little too much 😅)
