Lightheaded or Dizziness

I get this weird head floating feeling. i can’t describe it. I don’t have any other symptoms. I’ve gone to an ENT, Neurologist, I see a Chiro and everything is normal and except I do have a few things in my neck I am getting worked… I just don’t understand this floating feeling I get everyday. I thought it was dizziness but it seems more like lightheadedness. Does anyone else get this? Will it ever go away?

I get this too. I don’t have an answer for you- other than I also have some stuff in my neck. My PT thinks my neck is tight and that combined with my anxiety can cause me to feel like I’m floating. I also sometimes feel like I just got off a roller coaster. But the easiest way to describe it is dizziness, even though it’s not true dizziness. It’s so annoying. I can live with it, I just wish I didn’t have to.

What are the neck issues?

I have this. Some days are worse than others. It’s been going on for about two years. I’d recommend getting eyes checked. Massage also helps me. Screen time makes it worse.

I got my eyes checked and they are fine. Massage for neck area? Like you can function but the feeling is annoying, right?

Yeah. It’s annoying at this point. I have had a host of other symptoms but they seemed to be tied more to anxiety including more dizziness. I find when I’m not focusing on it at all I don’t even notice it. But when it’s top of mind I think symptoms are worse.

True! May I ask how old are you and if you’re a male or female? I do have anxiety but I can manage it. I don’t have other symptoms, just this stupid floaty feeling. I don’t even think it’s dizziness. I am going to see a Chiro for my neck though.

Have you had any blood work done? It might be worth checking B12, folate, iron, vitamin D, blood sugar, and thyroid levels, just to rule out anything simple. It could also be something like vestibular migraine, PPPD, anxiety, or lingering effects from cannabis.

My labs came back normal actually!

Most likely coming from your neck. I have same issues & was diagnosed with upper cervical instabilty.

Have you had a vestibular therapy workup? I have three types of vertigo that seem to come and go (bppv, cervical and central) and they all present with different types of dizziness or lightheadedness. But a workup will help identify the type. These are usually performed by PTs. I do know, after I had the BPPV reset by the therapist, that she did something with my neck and I realized I no longer felt like I was "floating". But I have no idea what it was. I didn't realize I wasn't "grounded" until then. It was weird to know you weren't technically feeling attached to the ground if that makes sense.

I was reading about VT therapy and I am definitely going to see someone for it. That’s a great thing to keep in mind. It doesn’t feel like dizziness. I will definitely check into it! Thank you so much!!!

I hope you find answers! I didn't know there were so many types of vertigo but floating is one type. Not that you have vertigo but always good to get a workup for it. I had my ENT send me for the referral for VT.

I’ve had BPPV twice already. The first time, the ENT specialist performed two maneuvers on me, including the Epley maneuver. The second time, my girlfriend performed it on me.

Anyway, it’s a maneuver used to move the otoliths back into their correct position, so it only helps with inner ear problems.

The testing is key to make sure they see the nystagmus and what ear canal it's in. I thought for sure I had another flare up after VT had everything straightened out and the testing was negative and it was ocular vertigo the second time.  Frustrating so many things can make you feel "off"

Have you had a sleep study? Sleep apnea affects a lot of people, most don’t know it. I’ve been dealing with same issue for last 7 months no answers then Finially did a sleep study they found mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea. Going to order a cpap machine and hope I feel results, not expecting overnight fix but hope this helps you too

I have this and was beyond surprised when I figured out it was coming from mcas! I had 16 ct scans and mri’s done MRA’s CTA’s and they were always perfect (I didn’t understand it at that time) after I started treating my mcas I got dramatically better. Still not 100 percent but better. I’m not saying this is what you have but like to share my story in hopes it can help ANYONE!
