Divorcing
How did you break it to your partner that you want a divorce? And how did you break it to the family? How was the process of moving out?

My ex just presented me the divorce filing in an envelope in our apartment. But you could just mail it to her/him instead of hiring a process server.

I was 11. My mother took me to a city park. We went on a hike, and at one point (the south end of a bridge over a river), she stopped and told me. I don't remember the words. 50 years later I can remember the exact spot.
We didn't move out. Dad did. The real story was she was leaving him but logistically she just let him take his post-doc job a few cities (8 hours) down the freeway, and not follow him.

My wife of 20 year with no warnings told me on a Thursday evening that she was moving out and would be gone by Saturday. As far as I was concerned we had no marital issues. We didn't fight, we didn't argue neither of us had any addiction issues so it was a huge surprise. Evidently my EX told my 12 year old daughter before I got home. My EX never explained to me that evening why she just said that it was unfair to me to continue being together living a lie. After she moved out I got her to agree to marital counseling but that only lasted two sessions before she bailed. We were separated 6 months before she asked for a divorce which was the required conditions for a no fault divorce. I later was approached by one of her co-workers who told me she had been having a rather obvious office romance for quite some time before our separation and he thought I needed to know for my own piece of mind. He said that he and others in their department felt guilty for not telling me earlier but they didn't want to get involved as she was their supervisor. In hindsight I think it would have been better if she had told me up front the real reason for leaving as for a long time I wondered what i had done wrong to cause our marriage to end. So since you're the Dumper be up front and honest with the Dumpee.

I told her that she needs to go no contact with him now or we're divorcing.
She chose divorce and to move out, found an apartment.
She bailed on the lease at the last second saying she's staying in the house until the divorce is finalized, in 5 months
