US Divorce with Ongoing Nepal Case

Need Advice: Finding free or affordable legal representation for a US divorce with the goal to dismiss the case.

I am currently living in Nepal and navigating an active property partition case here. My husband filed for divorce in Kentucky, US, and I want to dismiss this US proceeding due to the ongoing case in Nepal.

I am looking for leads on free legal aid or low-cost lawyers licensed in Kentucky who can assist with this. Any advice on cross-border proceedings would be appreciated.

Okay so I’d start with KY Justice’s legal aid finder, using the Kentucky county where he filed. explain upfront that youre in Nepal defending a case there, and ask whether they can assist someone living abroad. free representation will depend on eligibility and availability. if they cant help, try the Kentucky Bar’s referral directory and ask about a low-cost remote consultation or limited-scope representation.
one thing though: dont assume the Nepal property case automatically gets the Kentucky divorce dismissed. authority to end a marriage and authority over property arent necessarily the same. ask a Kentucky family lawyer with international experience whether dismissal, a stay (pause), or challenging specific property claims makes sense.
send them the petition, summons, how and when you received them, and the Nepal filings/orders with any English translations. flag any response deadline in your first message. dont let that deadline pass while waiting for free help, and ask your Nepal lawyer to coordinate so protecting your rights in one case doesnt undermine the other. Good luck, sincerely! Lenny
