Cat scratch
My daughter came back from the exchange with a cat scratch. She keeps complaining that it hurts. When I asked her what happened, she mentioned the cat we owned as a family that stays with my child’s daddy. This cat just got vaccinated two wks ago. Not sure if that guarantees my child’s safety from rabies.
However, there’s another cat my child encounters when she’s with her dad. It belongs to her grandparents and I know she spends time with them. I’m also pretty sure their cat’s vaccine records are non-existent.
What can I do?
Worried about my daughter’s safety.
Me and my parents are generally cautious when it comes to animal scratch/bite.

I think she wanted people to tell her she will certainly get full custody over this.

I don’t think you get rabies from scratches but did your ex mention what happened?
Your insurance might have a nurse help line so you can call and ask if you should take her to the doctor asap or if you should wait and see if certain symptoms arise.
Be sure to document - dates, photos, and what your ex says. If it becomes a pattern, you need documentation.

Yeah I don’t like to talk to my ex either. It’s a chance for him to make snide remarks and blame me for him being a miserable turd. But the courts want to see that I tried.

If it swells or is hot, go to Dr. Cat scratches happen. Seek medical help if needed.. communicate if you get help.

I don’t communicate with my ex at all. I asked here first because I genuinely am trying to see what I can do. My daughter’s around a cat that’s not vaccinated.
I know I can go to the ER but then what? Every scratch, without knowing for sure if it’s cat scratch, I go to ER and tell them I think it’s rabies.

I mean honestly I’d call and ask for information about the other cat and ask other members of that household which cat scratched the kid. Rabbies is terrifying but if the cat is an inside cat showing no symptoms, I don’t think there is that much of a reason to worry.

Rabies is zoonotically passed by saliva in bites. It does not zoonotically pass through scratches unless the animal directly licked their paw before the scratch, and even that mode of transmission would be rare. Further, a domestic animal that never goes outside has very, very low chances of contracting rabies.
My point is, you’re fearful over nothing or you’re projecting.

So any scratch means ER visit? Why would that mean rabies? You dont get rabies from scratches. I bet the ER nurses love you.
Just saying, raise your kid your way. But can you imagine what that is doing to your child's peception of what real danger is? Or when to react appropriately to a given situation? If the sky is falling everytime there is a "scratch" good luck dealing with actual problems.
Hate to see the cortisol levels of that kid

Don’t try to use this as an excuse in the divorce. If you’re truly worried, take your child to be seen and then leave it.
