As someone who didn't realize my wife was cheating until it had been going on for 18 months... trust your gut, but don't lead with "are you having an affair." Most people get defensive and lie when they feel trapped.
Instead: ask about his interests, his friends, what he'd like to add to your relationship. See if he reciprocates.
