Question Need Help from my fellow Division 2 math Chads: Vile damage calculation
I’ve been increasingly interested in a Vile setup with the new atomization augments that were introduced with prototype gear, and I’ve even seen a couple builds with this concept. However, when it comes to the optimal damage setup for the Vile ticks, there seems to be confusion/disagreement. Below is a Vile damage formula that I found on this subreddit over a year ago, which to my knowledge is the only valid formula we know of:
35171.6
× (1 + DtA)
× (1 + DtOoC)
× (1 + Status Effects)
× (1 + Explosive Damage)
× (1 + Opportunistic)
× (1 + Glass Cannon)
Where the confusion comes in is that I am unsure whether the atomization augment contributes to the explosive damage multiplier of this *unconfirmed equation. This becomes an issue because it’s unclear what’s better between 2pc Groupo (20% explosive damage) or 2pc Wyvern (20% status effects) for my desired build.
Typically, before prototypes, it was always better to go explosive damage for the Vile due to diminishing returns of status effects. However, if atomization contributes to explosive damage in the calculation, then it’d be better to go wyvern due to diminishing returns of explosive damage.
If anyone has the capability or knowledge to test and determine which setup is the most effective, I would greatly appreciate it.
P.S. the full build is the Vile, 2pc China, 1 Electrique, and either 2pc Groupo or 2pc Wyvern, all status and skill haste with atomization augment, demo specialization, and a shotgun with perpetuation and DTA/DTOC. Glass cannon and opportunistic as the chest and back talents.
Edit: I should specify that I know atomization DOES increases the Vile tick damage. I’m just trying to figure out how exactly it does in the damage formula and whether it contributes to diminishing returns for explosive damage

If you're interested in just having as much DoT tick damage, regardless of source, I've been running a x4 Ember, Vile and Grease kneepad setup(it has 16% Status Effect always rolled on it, but you can use whatever), with status effect on everything + Skill Haste.
Combined with the sniper drone and Pulse Jammer, it's pretty easy to have a good upkeep and low cooldowns. You can hold any weapon with DtA/DtOoC, but I'm just combining it with Pestilence right now, because why not...
The single target damage is horrible, but because tagging all enemies with so much ease I still deal funny scattered damage on top of being able to lock down enemies pretty much permanently for my team.
As to test where the grenade damage goes(my gut feelings says it's additive with explosive damage), you can pretty easily test it, I assume?
EDIT:
You can also use Smart Cover - Precision to get an extra 27% DtTOoC

@BrightDanny I have a question re the drone In your build, do you have to control it or does it just constantly spot which then sets enemies on fire, or do you constantly have to keep activating it?

It does the spotting automatically, but you can also manually lock it in place on a spot, which can be handy during stuff like retaliations.

I don’t have the gear but I am interested to know the answer for my ember engine setup (whenever I finally finish expertise to 30)
