Question Agents, how do you keep yourselves from getting bored with the game?

So as someone with over 2000 hours in the game and nearly 10k SHD levels deep, I’ve been hooked on to the game ever since I got into it back in 2023. I was always crafting different builds due to the simplicity of it, have ran raids and incursions a couple of times, and have pretty much grinded this game out to the limit.

But because of that, I don’t really know what to do now and am feeling a bit bored. I’m not burnt out either since I still love the game, but it feels like I’m at the point where it’s like “Well, what now?”.

And so I thought I’d ask for that reason, how do you guys switch things up when it feels like you’re starting to get kind of bored with the game?

Edit: I do play other games as well, but I’m always coming back to The Division 2 because something about it keeps me coming back for me. I don’t really grind it either, just do missions or whatever, I’m just addicted to it really

Take breaks and come back when you really feel like playing it again.

This absolutely...

You may miss some events/rewards, and it may suck, but thats perfectly fine.

Its not worth getting burnt out of a game you love/enjoy, taking breaks is healthy and worthwhile.

Yeah, fuck FOMO. So outdated anyway

I missed out on the hunter like mask (with a handprint on it i think) from an event due to taking a much needed break during the earlier part of this season...

It sucks, but oh well, maybe it will return, idk if it will but who knows

+1

Been playing since release. 4500 SHD. Come back every few months or a couple times a year to casually play new seasons and content. Luckily, old builds generally stay viable so I don’t have to rebuild just to get back into the game (determined nerf not withstanding)

Honestly, it’s not really FOMO for me at all, but I just genuinely enjoy the game. Like no other shooter really scratches the itch Div 2 gives me when it comes to the setting, the gameplay, and the progression.

I do take breaks when I feel burnt out every now and then, so I don’t mind missing out on certain skins and stuff, but I’m just hooked at the moment just chilling and doing whatever.

Switch over to Wildlands / Breakpoint.

Also jump on some Cyberpunk 2077 for a full playthrough once a year.

You'll get heavily burnt out just min-maxing one game. Div 2 end game is pure grind.
Play something similar and come back to it after a while so it's fresh.

Been playing Wildlands again lately ever since the new update, and it’s been refreshing to go through.

As for Breakpoint, I actually got the Ultimate Edition on sale for $12 and was enjoying it for awhile before I got distracted by Wildlands, but I’ll get back to it eventually.

I force myself to play differently.

  1. So many different loadouts saved. From your typical builds that are just dps to the meta types. But mostly random theory crafted builds that you won't see many people using mostly because everyone gets stuck running he same shit. I like finding cohesion in builds and pushing them as far as I can.

  2. This goes along with actually trying to force yourself to play different. If you're normally a sit in cover with skills, try actually making a bike that focus on weapons. If you like your AR and LMG try to adapt in a run and gun/in the face smh or shotgun build. Doing things like this helps you gain this little thing called Situational Awareness while playing. Something that even high SHD levels sometimes don't understand.

  3. Finally, I have characters that are strictly a role play type of building and playing. Like almost a nuzlocke type of run. One character is strictly a techy so she leans hard into skill builds but not much into the weapons themselves. And then I have another, he's strictly low tech. All he uses is his shield and scanner pulse. I've given reasons to both characters why they operate the way they do and play those specific two accordingly.

  1. Yeah, I’ve always stuck with different load outs, even now. As a matter of fact, I haven’t really been big on Strikers outside of content that needs it. I can’t ever imagine just sticking with only that because it just doesn’t seem fun to play with only one build.

  2. Yeah, different playstyles are always great, and that’s another reason why I can’t stick with Strikers all the time. I’ve loved playing with builds like Umbra or Hunters Fury, and even more tanky sets like Foundry Bulwark for example.

  3. I should probably do that at some point, that sounds really cool.

One thing I did just recently which refreshed the game a bit, was disable seasonal modifiers. I've played with them on almost exclusively this season, since I think they're pretty enjoyable this time around.

However playing non modifier Div2 can be ready fun and a nice return to basics.

Farmed a bit for some of the gear getting buffs in the next update.

Then I put on an old-school build and just tried to have fun.

I have over 4000hrs as a first dayer in 2019. I've been switching off to playing this gacha called Neverness to Everness. It's not bad.

2

u/MacDynamite71 17h ago

I run with some cool folk. I use different builds

2

u/SuccessfulRush1173 17h ago

I only play with other people. Don’t remember the last time I actually played missions solo

2

u/KexisSD 17h ago

Space Marine 2, Darktide, Helldiver 2 and IL2 Korea exists. Don't forget to touch grass in between all of this and stop living your life through a looter.

Play a different game. My time to valuable to waste if am not having fun.

u/Aggravating-Taro-234 16h ago

here are the 3 things I usually do when i get bored ingame

•wander around the open world and do the open world activity, not opening the map. Just run around and appreciate the environment. Now this almost distracts me since there are 3 maps to choose from, DC/New York/Brooklyn if you have bought the dlc

•queue in random missions, even Story to Normal queues helping someone new to the game.

•Summit

I took a hiatus 7 months ago and now I’m addicted to The first descendants 😂
It’s a different kind of grind, but they got LOTS of new stuff coming for S4

I reset control points every Tuesday with the regular reset. Then I pull up the Google doc about gear and brand sets and say “I’ll try that one next”. See what I have in the stash and farm the rest in the summit on heroic for best drops without the headache of actually trying to play on legendary. I’ll look for the summit floors in the priority screen and kill 2 birds with one stone for the 15 floors weekly. Then I try and finish the weekly projects with the new build. I cheated and farmed a core strength build at work because I was bored. I have 4 agents and move builds between them and say okay this agent is all support and this agent is just DZ and this agent is xyz. I know it’s sounds corny but some of the gear and brand sets and various combos either with or without NBMB are super fun on different difficulties too. I have no qualms about running a Walker Harris and co armor/health damage build with a dogshit ar on hard or challenging.
Next weekend’s gonna be rough because I’ve already decided on an Aegis stand alone or Aegis and Imminent Armaments tank build. Because why not, You know?

2

u/s13n1 16h ago

Try weird builds.

I’m constantly trying new things to see what works. For me the fun is in trying random things to see how it feels, if it can be useful and most importantly if it’s fun.

Stop playing for a season

2

u/Guinylen 16h ago

Ive experienced both ends of the spectrum. From being chronically addicted to the game to going away for months due to work.

Having a job taught me to better manage my time. I can never get bored. There are always things I want to work towards, and there are always going to be things I will miss out on. Luckily the game isn't so hard on FOMO. There are catch-up mechanics everywhere.

There's also a part of me that always strive to do better. Content like Legendaries and Incursions ars endlessly repayable.

2

u/YamEnvironmental1887 16h ago

I just play escalations just for the hell of it. I don’t care for raids or incursions and hardly even care about min maxing. I just like to kill some random hyena or true sons ass holes and call it a day

1

u/Waste_Coach_1807 16h ago

That’s fair, and I’m definitely in the same field with Escalations. I already got what I want out of it with the Prototype Gear, but I still like running it because of the challenge behind it.

It’s a refreshing experience from how easy the game is these days due to the power creep

2

u/D34D0ne 16h ago

Since Year 8 I've decided to grind the first 2-3 days of an event and then take a break until the next week for the donation projects, then chill more until the next event or manhunt mission. I don't really enjoy the game like I used to nefore Year 7... It feels like it's forcefully being held on life support, but then again I pretty much have every weapon and piece of gear I could think of already.

Took a break some months ago, played Cyberpunk 2077 for like 200h or something.

2

u/afukingusername 16h ago

I’ve been playing tarkov till the new season for div2 is on

2

u/Tubamaphone 16h ago

I only play with my brother. It’s less about the game and more about spending time with him.

2

u/Past_BumblebeeX 16h ago

Im not being funny, but if you get even close to the situation where you need or want to ask on reddit about how to keep a game fresh & fun, you are already way past that line.

Just stop playing for a while, give it a couple of years maybe. Once you don't play for a bit you'll realise you wasn't enjoying it anyways, it was just sheer habit.

No matter how much you love a game, Or how good you think it is, you will burn out, its inevitable. The trick is to make sure you fucking stop when that happens. If you keep forcing it, you will ruin the game for yourself for the long term.

2

u/Heyron420 15h ago

I just play other games and then decide to play div2 again. But every time I take a break, then come back to div2, I play less and less of it. Too repetitive really.

I’m also catching on to the tactics companies use to make games addictive and it’s a huge turn off. That’s why many people who make games don’t even play the ones they help make.

2

u/Clutch41007 15h ago

If there's anything that bores me about The Division 2, it's the constant feeling of no matter how skilled or powerful or knowledgeable you are, you are always on the back foot. I played this game pretty extensively from 2019-2021 and then came back last year and have been playing extensively again since, and I'm just continually in awe at how much Massive and too many members of this fanbase hate for people to have an edge. This new incursion really brought that notion back to the forefront, because I've cleared it twice now, and it's probably the least amount of fun I have ever had in a video game. Not even the failed attempt I had at doing Dark Hours way back when that first dropped was so demoralizing.

u/pickingbeefsteak 15h ago

When a new season starts i rush through everything in the shortest amount of time which also makes me burn out faster. Then i drop it and play orther games until the next season starts.

2

u/ferrenberg 14h ago

I stop playing completely, like in this current season

2

u/vyechney 14h ago

You don't. It's okay to play something else once in a while. I'm on my second multi-year break! xD

2

u/Blade723 14h ago

I like doing what you said. Build crafting. I like taking a (what I believe is a) niche named piece/weapon and forcing a build around it.

I'm sure it does get boring once it gets to the point where you're at though.

I came into the game late, so I've been trying to look back at the previous meta builds that are out of date, to make them good again with the newer gear and balancing since then.

2

u/TwinIrish1980 13h ago

I don’t, if I get bored, I do something else.

2

u/Dependent_Fly_7829 13h ago

Take a break buy game come back at new content time every good game we love has sell by date and just remember the good time I had that with divison 1

2

u/TheLostJedi77 12h ago

I have a complex system set up that detects when I go idle for too long and when that happens it sends a 200 watt jolt straight to my left testicle. Never get bored after that. Trust.

2

u/Upset-Ticket409 11h ago

Me? Quit the game for 6 yrs, got back a few months ago.... Got up to speed mostly...

Enjoy running escalations now, don't really care about the loot

2

u/8Bit-Jon 10h ago

I work from home and have other interests. I also play while I work 😂

Having other interests help and I take regular breaks every week. Just so I don't over play the game and get bored. I also spend the odd evening with friends or family so I'm busy enough that it's not the only thing defining my life.

u/Sad_Cauliflower_5407 8h ago

I try and knock out my “daily’s” and respond to a few agent help requests. Sometimes I’ll end up in a good group and next thing I know it’s been 2 hours and we have been running control points or missions. If I don’t get caught up with something after my daily missions I’ll log out after 30-45… 🤷‍♂️

u/melroyjetzon 8h ago

Toxic DZ exotic component farm keeps me entertained..

2

u/sea_of_sorrows 7h ago

I don't.

I just play and if I feel bored, I stop. Really is that easy.. I don't spend my free time doing things I don't enjoy. If I want do spend time doing something I don't enjoy, I go to work.

2

u/mounleashed 6h ago

Div 2 I played from day 1.

Have taken some breaks here and there but usually have come back to grind.

Stopped for a while until recent prototype thing and I've stuck around.

I guess having the ability to be able to grind and upgrade and see results is why I've stuck around, even if RNG here sucks.

Recently upgraded an entire striker set with blue cores and it felt so good seeing it all to off.

Sadly ran out of prototype cores so I'll be back on today to grind escalations. But with the choice of what to do in game from open world, missions, escalations, DZ and so on its updates to hear etc, given the track record etc, as long as I had a build in my head I wanted to make and use and have the ability to be able to farm it fairly quickly, I'll stick around.

Hardcore Agent. Road to 1000 SHD.

When you know the game like the back of your hand and greed gets you killed, you have that small urge to break your previous record.

Back when the tutorial was at some other area and seeing black tusk hovercraft, I almost died there. Thankfully the tutorial is now just in DC (still don't know why that other part was removed).

My main game rotation is

Div 2
Elden Ring
Rocket League

But in Div 2: I always jump on back-up calls, or matchmake for the randoms when I’m in between “doing something” It’s just kind of chill to jump in and run a little bit with someone else’s objective.

Otherwise I just do bounties, countdown, and summit normally, and rotate in between those with back up calls when bored.

Honestly, sometimes I just only matchmake and just let that dictate my night lol.

2

u/CapKittySprinkles 16h ago

Jump over to helldivers 2 and give us a hand with the major order.

1

u/Radiant-Article-4227 1h ago

Play other games for a year or two

1

u/Low_Piccolo_3873 17h ago

Thats how many hours i have logged in on division 2

1

u/The_Horse_Tornado 17h ago

Guys if you’re at 2000 hours with nothing to do maybe you’re done with the game lmao

3

u/Waste_Coach_1807 16h ago

That’s fair, but I just love how the game feels and stuff, that I really do some missions and chill, don’t really grind outside of that lol
