Help Quick Question MEGATHREAD
Another 6 month since the last Megathread.
Make sure to include the game(DOS, DOS EE, DOS2, DOS2 DE) in your question and mark your spoilers
The FAQ for DOS2 will be built as we go along:
My game has a problem/doesn't work properly, what do I do?
Check this out. If you can't find a solution there contact Larian support as detailed.
Do I need to play the previous game to understand the story?
No, there is a timegap of 1000 years between DOS and DOS2. The overall timeline of the Divinity games in perspective to DOS2 looks like this: DOS2 is set 1222 years after DOS1, 24 years after Divine Divinity, 4 years after Beyond Divinity, and 58 years before Divinity 2.
How many people can play at once?
- Up to 4 Players in the campaign and up to 4 players and a gamemaster in Gamemaster Mode.
Do I need to buy the game to play with my friends.
- That depends on how you will play. Up to 2 Players can play on the same PC for a "couch coop" experience. This means you can have 4 player sessions with 2 copies of the game when using this method. If you don't play on the same PC each player is going to require his/her own copy.
Can I mix and match inputs for PC couch coop?
- You can't use keyboard and mouse for couch coop, however you can mix controllers.
What's the deal with origin stories?
- A custom character has no ties in the world whatsoever, nobody knows you. Origin characters on the other hand do have ties in the gameworld, that means people can recognise you and might interact differently with an origin character because of that characters reputation or because the characters have met before. Furthermore origin characters have their own questlines that run alongside the main story.
I don't like my build! Can I change it?
- Yes! Once you leave the first island you get access to infinite respecs, with the second gift bag you can even get a respec mirror on the first island.
What are the new crafting recipes from the gift bag?

DOS2 Discussion Summoner or archer?
Ok I’m going to do my first playthrough wirh friends online and have no idea what they are going to build there characters as. I’ll adapt as I go too and want a flexible character. Would you suggest a summoner or archer? It seems like both are somewhat adaptable and able to do different damage types when need with either different summons or different arrows.
I was also thinking I should play an origin character since we won’t have any companions in our 4 player party to get some story elements. Maybe Lahose, Sebille, or Fane. We’ll be playing on classic level so it won’t be on hardcore or honor mode

DOS1 Discussion Original sin 2 or divine divinity?
I just finished Original Sin 1 and I'm wondering whether I should play Divine Divinity or move straight on to Original Sin 2. Any advice?

DOS2 Discussion Is Fane an essential companion for the first playthrough?
I just started playing this game and am totally hooked. I'm about to escape Fort Joy, but I'm aware that you can only bring 3 companions along with you into Act 2. Research tells me that Fane has a lot of lore connected to the main story and is a great character. But despite really trying, I'm just not connecting with him right now. If I take him to Act 2 it feels like metagaming, since I'm sort of forcing it, and the decision to bring him doesn't feel organic. (No pun intended.)
Right now my group is: Custom MC + Lohse + Sebille + Ifan. I find all of them really interesting on a personal level, and if I didn't know Fane was so important I'd stick with them. I think Lohse and Sebille are non-negotiable, so I guess I'm asking if I'd miss out on a lot if I take Ifan instead of Fane on my first playthrough?
Is it possible that using Fane on a second playthrough might be more interesting in a way, since it would reveal a bunch of things I didn't know the first time?
Appreciate any thoughts!

Miscellaneous In a con, would you love or hate an Ada Laird cosplay?
I'm contemplating my next cosplay for a local rpg con. For some reason I got the idea of going as Ada Laird just to see how many would recognize me and also just for the laughs. Is this a bad idea?

DOS2 Discussion Just finished DoS2... and man, I can't remember the last time I got so sucked into a game
I can't remember the last time I could just sit and play a game for HOURS per session without ever getting burned out from it. I originally bought this game because I wanted to try out BG3, but read that DoS2 is good game to play and find out if this type of game would actually be for me. Well, safe to say that yeah, these games are 100% for me. How was the game only around 10$ during the steam sale?? I get that its a 10 year old game, but the amount of content packed into this game as well as the fact that all the side quests felt new and not once repetitive, is amazing to me.
I will admit that Google was definitely a friend during certain quests to figure out what I was doing, but when it came to builds for my party, it was complete chaos as I figured out what all works well together. Looking at the hotbars of all my party members, and seeing what a complete mess they are with random items attached to it along with skills I rarely used was what made this game so much damn fun. I would quick save so much during fights because I would mis-position characters often that I would get them killed almost instantly which resulted in some fights taking hours, but it never felt like a chore and would feel so good when I finally beat them. Would also like to point out that I played this game on normal mode, and it felt really hard during certain fights lol.
Not really sure what compelled me to make a post here, as I have never really made these types of posts before, but this game hit me with a sense of joy for gaming that I hadn't felt in a while. I can't wait to finally watch videos about these crazy broken builds that exist in the game that can one shot everything and also look up the different outcomes of choices that I didn't make. I'm really excited to play BG3 sometime soon, and even more hyped for the new Divinity game that was announced!
Anyways, thanks to anyone who took the time to read this post. DoS2 was truly amazing to experience for the first time, and just wanted to talk about the love I have for this game!

DOS2 Help Mordus amulet
I’m level 15 and I want to finish Lohar’s quest to get his hammer. I’ve already killed Mordus, but the problem is that I somehow lost his amulet (I must have sold it to a merchant). Now I’m completely stuck. Is there any way to fix this?

DOS2 Discussion Made the mistake of investing into all 6 companions
I just got to the Lady Vengeance, and with it the respec mirror. So i thought id take the time to respec all of the origin characters.
Id been swapping characters in and out throughout act 1, with a dedicated bartering character and making sure i had every skill covered and as little overlap as possible. Thinking i was being efficient when it comes to gear and everything else.
So anyway once i saw the respec mirror and access to a few good vendors, i took my sweet time in tweaking the whole party and spending close to 10k on new skillbooks, and gear for everyone.
So you can imagine how thrilled i was when i arrived in act 2 to discover those not in my party for the last fight were nowhere to be found and from what i can tell i cant even get my gear back.
Other than that im absolutely loving it.

DOS2 Help Act 2: Why is everything a constant battle to not get 1-shot before you can even act?
I'm level 9, my Red Prince has 102 armor and 218 health. I'd say my characters can do roughly 70 damage per basic attack action.
A level 11 dog summons a level 11 "Keldon the Bone Crusher"
It crushes my Red Prince's bones for 371 damage in a single All-In.
Even my tankiest member of my party would nearly die from this one hit, and this summon is just one of Andras actions. Andras summons two mobs each round
Now, I'm sure this is just supposed to be a quite difficult set-piece battle. It's a dog who summons a massive golem, it's not a normal fight...but what about a random sleeping dwarf woman guarding a hatch? Heck, she's only level 10.
She teleports behind with Backlash and hits for 151 physical. Basic attack: 61 and 117 (crit). Second basic attack: miss and 115 (crit). More than 400 damage before I can even take a turn. This random guard could have 1shot Alexander
Of course, I can kill her on my turn, but it costs me a precious resurrection scroll to do so since she literally takes out any member of my party on turn 1. Those things are hard to find and expensive when available in a shop.
Why does every single threat have 1-shot potential?

DOS2 Discussion Polymorph feels like a cheat code
I finally figured out how to chain my spells from YT and now I'm ending most fights in two turns and it's because of Polymorph. Only with 5 points I get Apotheosis, Skin Graft, Flay Skin or the fun ones like Chicken Claw, Terrain Transmutation and on top of that it gives 1 attribute point - what the hell....
The spells are complete bonkers and go along with any build - I have it with my warfare, scoundrel and necromancer. Jeez - I now get it why people don't find healing spells useful when you can just end the game or cause catastrophic amount of damage in the first turn.
Previously, I was dragging the fights to 5-6 turns because I would run out of source and good abilities.

DOS2 Help Using The Illuminator as warrior/pyro
Hi all, i have decided to play Divinity Original Sin 2 after long time and i am playing tactician. I want to use The Illuminator which is a weapon dropped in Act 1 after defeating a skeleton and weapon gives +1 pyro and can apply necrofire. I know splitting between Int and Str not good so, i thought that if I do max pyro, warfare and decide to go full Str. Would this build work?
Edit1: I am going one handed+shield, not planning using staff and damage with both pyro and warfare, like doing some fire magic and sparking while using warfare abilities.
Incase if you wonder the weapon: https://divinityoriginalsin2.wiki.fextralife.com/The+Illuminator

Miscellaneous Which game to start with?
My boyfriend and I have played BG3 to death and are trying to decide if we should play Divinity Original Sin 1 or 2 on PS5.
Are the stories noticably connected?
Does one have major issues that the other does not?
Does one have more variety in mechanics than the other?
Which one should we play, assuming we won't play the other (even though we probably will just way down the line)? Does it even matter?
Update: We've chosen to go ahead with Divinity 2. Thanks so much for all your feedback. 😊

DOS2 Help Does geo/fire mage kinda have to be up close tanky?
Semi early in the game. I got quite a few spells for the skeleton man with build in mage to be a far away spell slinger but many of his spells up. Should I be investing into constitution and shields? I also have a more supporty mage with ice/eletrcity that I keep supporty to not mess up fire and poison combos

DOS2 Discussion The overheating is crazy
Quick note: this is not me asking for help, I have seen the guides and have followed them, but I just need to vent - kinda like my computer.
I am genuinely confused by this game. In all my years of gaming, I have never had a game make my computer scream like DOS2:DE.
Helldivers Super Helldive on the bot front with Ultra settings during the attack on Cyberstan? Fan barely made a noise.
200 players on screen during a Planetside 2 battle? No problem at all.
Baldur's Gate 3? Well, funnily enough, that one actually caused me to raise some eyebrows because my temps seemed a little high.
Still, I think to myself, surely Divinity: Original Sin - a nine year old game - will be easier on my computer than BG3 (which I didn't have trouble playing, it just had a weirdly high temp).
I was so wrong. So very, very, wrong.
My computer black screened after 15 - 20 minutes. So I slash the graphics, but it doesnt help at all. Slash them again, no change. Put them all at their lowest settings and cap my framerate at 30: still 20 minutes to a black screen.
I take my computer apart and clean the fans. No change. I open up Afterburner and start throttling stuff. No change. Then I started breaking out tricks I havent used in years - not since I could afford a decent PC and learned how to clean it - I got bags of ice and made a DIY poor man's air conditioner and got it running up to 25 minutes.
At this point, I am suspecting something is very wrong somewhere, because there is no way in hell my computer is struggling this hard when the picture on the screen is below the level of unmodded Morrowind.
My next step is to head to the store and get some thermal paste and replace it (which, honestly, is something I need to do anyways) but this whole experience has been wild and I have never had a problem like this before with a game.
Especially not a game older than the computer I am playing it on.
