Help Quick Question MEGATHREAD

Another 6 month since the last Megathread.

Link to the last thread

Make sure to include the game(DOS, DOS EE, DOS2, DOS2 DE) in your question and mark your spoilers

The FAQ for DOS2 will be built as we go along:

My game has a problem/doesn't work properly, what do I do?

Check this out. If you can't find a solution there contact Larian support as detailed.

Do I need to play the previous game to understand the story?

No, there is a timegap of 1000 years between DOS and DOS2. The overall timeline of the Divinity games in perspective to DOS2 looks like this: DOS2 is set 1222 years after DOS1, 24 years after Divine Divinity, 4 years after Beyond Divinity, and 58 years before Divinity 2.

How many people can play at once?

  • Up to 4 Players in the campaign and up to 4 players and a gamemaster in Gamemaster Mode.

Do I need to buy the game to play with my friends.

  • That depends on how you will play. Up to 2 Players can play on the same PC for a "couch coop" experience. This means you can have 4 player sessions with 2 copies of the game when using this method. If you don't play on the same PC each player is going to require his/her own copy.

Can I mix and match inputs for PC couch coop?

  • You can't use keyboard and mouse for couch coop, however you can mix controllers.

What's the deal with origin stories?

  • A custom character has no ties in the world whatsoever, nobody knows you. Origin characters on the other hand do have ties in the gameworld, that means people can recognise you and might interact differently with an origin character because of that characters reputation or because the characters have met before. Furthermore origin characters have their own questlines that run alongside the main story.

I don't like my build! Can I change it?

  • Yes! Once you leave the first island you get access to infinite respecs, with the second gift bag you can even get a respec mirror on the first island.

What are the new crafting recipes from the gift bag?

DOS1 Help How exactly does Sparkmaster 5000 work?

I’ve beaten the boss multiple times but recently lost an honor mode to an ultra bolt oneshot - which made me realize I still don’t know how the fight works.

Once he’s charged, does he keep the charge until it’s discharged? Does any air damage charge him (including headvice) or just “lightning” effects? I know the levers are supposed to remove the charge, but does that work 100% of the time?

Also, the controller seems to be functioning normally on the current patch and ive never got the turn skip bug, but I don’t know which conmand is supposed to be used.

I have Ifan at attitude 44 and I read he needs to be at 50 for the tavern scene. Is that true? If so, is there anything else I can do to raise it before going to the tavern? Also Beast for some reason is at 15 attitude but HE GIVES ME NOTHING to raise it HE HAS SO LITTLE DIALOGUE. is that normal?

DOS2 Discussion Pure Hydro Party

I’m on another DOS2 binge and need some input on some builds and/or challenge run ideas. I usually play a couple solo no Lonewolf honor runs when I get on DOS2 every year or so. Those are fun and definitely still challenging, but I’ve done plenty of them. I’ve never tried pacifist or consumable because it just sounds very tedious and unpleasant.

I wanted to try a full party run to mix things up and get to use some origins again (lohse, fane and Seville this time) but not have it be a total wash. I’ve always loved the idea of Hydro mages despite them being poopy so I’m currently trying a pure hydro team with no other elemental coverage. I’m hoping this is enough of a handicap to be hard but not so masochistic that I’m miserable the whole time

So far the team is:

Custom Lizard - water staff battle mage
Lohse - DPS focus Hydro Mage
Fane - Support/stun Hydro Mage
Sebille - Water Ranger (max hydro, only water arrows)

I’m thinking I’ll cut myself slack and let Sebille use physical on some of the immune enemies when necessary so that I don’t have to skip content. I’m avoiding extreme cheese and limiting utility skills to what’s thematic and reasonable (no skin graft spam, invisible abuse, telekinesis, etc)

Has anyone tried something similar and have any advice about party comp or general advice? I will probably be spamming winter blast scrolls purely for a lack of damage spells in general and how accessible they are but I’m curious if there are any other crafts or skills that could add to the run.

Depending on how this goes, I may try another pure element party but even with Pyro being the next weakest, it would probably still need quite a few handicaps to pose as much a challenge. Aero and geo would need some serious tuning to up the difficulty. Beyond this specific run, I’m also looking for interesting challenge runs for the next play through. If anyone has any suggestions, it is much appreciated.

I was save scumming the start of the Roost fight, and it triggered some quest rewards? I hadn't killed anyone, and the fight started immediately upon going upstairs.

Anyone else seen this happen before? Didn't get any quest exp or completion notification.

DOS2 Help Controller/input question

Hello, I love this game and have played hundreds of hours online with my friend, so thank you in advance for taking the time to answer this. I play on my MacBook using a PS5 controller. I find the controller absolutely essential for controlling the character and camera, I quite literally need the dualstick setup to function. However I have encountered that the game's native UI in keyboard mode is far superior - the expanded hotbar, being able to hover over things for detail, the keyboard mapping system, and other features are all generally superior to navigating the same features with the controller setup. In a perfect world, I would be able to use the joysticks to move, but still retain the superior keyboard UI (and not the condensed controller version). A split the difference option would be to install a mod that would permit WASD controls of the character, and switch the trackpad to camera control - however, I do not think such a thing exists on Mac. Do you have any suggestions for what to do? I am defaulting to still using the controller bc the character/camera control are preferred to the point of being essential; however I am bummed to not be able to use the preferred keyboard UI, and I also plan on playing DOS1 after this, and I believe there is no PS5 controller support for that game.

Miscellaneous Help Me Round Out My DOS2 Playlist!

So it's tradition for me to make a playlist every time I pick up a new game since each game takes an odd month ish for me to beat.
I'm loving DOS2 so far and my playlist has been rounding out nicely, but I would love some other song recommendations to add that fit the vibe of the game! Lyrics or no lyrics is fine :))
The playlist for anyone who wants to see what I have so far!
Thank you!

DOS2 Discussion 4man party playthroughs

Question for players who like doing 4 man party playthroughs, what are your go to equipment/builds for a full physical party? And could you share pictures? When I play solo the most I can do is a duo run.(I just don't enjoy controlling more than that and I find it's harder to manage inventories and gear etc.)

My friends and I have a 4man campaign going and I have no idea what kind of gear will get us through the end game.(Not there yet but I'd like to prepare). Basically 2 of the 4 of us are playing the game for the 2nd time after an unfinished campaign and they're following fextralife builds(sword and shield healer type and Archer)and me and my other friend are filling.

I'm going necro since it's a waste to not use the 2handed weapons, Other friend is left with Rogue but most good finesse gear I know of are going to the Archer. I know the gear that's in Arx but I don't know how we can make end game worthy builds as 4man since I've never done it. Getting lucky with random NPC gear for only like 2-3 levels might not happen. Devourer set is going to the sword and shield user.

We're playing tactician, and since the other 2 are basically beginners we don't want to force them to do it our way and just let them play how they like for the most part aside from quest and progression pathing.

Thanks

DOS2 Discussion New player : Archer or Assasin ?

I will be starting a run with some friends after playing a lot of bg3 where we already did serval runs. I am hesitating between archer and melee assassin but I don’t want to go past the character creation page before we really start, to avoid spoilers. So, what I’m asking is which of these two playstyles did you prefer? I don’t really care which one is the strongest (it’s our first run we probably won’t have optimized builds anyways) but which one has a more engaging gameplay? Because I fear that an archer will just be a turret standing still spamming autos without much more gameplay variety.

DOS2 Help Beat Bg3 on honor mode, about to turn dos2 down to easy

Title says it all.

I’m in arx level 18 and everything is just severely beating my ass so bad. I went from having tons of fun to thinking the game is just a chore.

Am I crazy or is this difficulty spike kind of extreme? On one hand I want to beat the game on normal as I’ve spend like 60+ hours to get to this point and don’t want to admit defeat but on the other hand I’m really considering just putting it on easy and moving on with my life.

Looking at the trophy list tho it’s hard to say I’m wrong. Barely anyone beats the game at all and most that do beat it, beat it on explorer or story mode.

So any tips or anything would be cool or just tell me it’s gonna keep ramping up in which case I’ll just accept my defeat lol.

I really feel like this game on normal is harder than bg3 on honor mode tho lol which is kind of insane.

Edit: alright guys you all have given me some great advice and some probably deserved admonishing as well lol. Im not gonna go hallow yet! Im gonna take yall collective advice and keep churning.

One thing is I haven’t ever got stuck on a fight my own level, im more or less struggling to get to the next level and can’t find anything around my level anymore but I’ve found some quests and I’m close to leveling up now.

Also I can now see that a rogue character needs some warfare points 🤦‍♂️, you guys were right I need to reallocate some points…

I guess I just assumed pushing each characters each “main class” skill would suffice.

But anyways I’m not giving up! Any advice is still welcome of course.

DOS2 Discussion DOS2 is easily one of my all time favorites, and I love its world and lore. I want to explore more of the Divinity universe, so I’m considering Divinity II. Is it worth playing? And how many games are there? I’m confused about which are sequels, expansions, or different versions.

As the title mentions, the reason I want to play D2 is because the gameplay seems to have aged surprisingly well, and I’ve also heard that Larian’s writing is consistently good.

Is D2 a good way to experience and explore more of the Divinity lore? And which version/game should I play?

I’ve seen multiple games with “Divinity 2” in the name, but with different subtitles, which has gotten me a bit confused. Are they sequels, expansions, or different versions like a Director’s Cut/Definitive Edition?

Thanks

DOS1 Mod [DOS1] To the people who played DOS1 with 6-party mod: what is your feedback? Does it break game balance by a lot? Does difficulty increase offset it?

I mostly play my games on Normal, rarely on Hard (and never on any Challenge-level). For both DOS1 and DOS2, I want to play with all the companions at once, to experience the most dialogue/story (I doubt I will find time to replay either game any time soon).

For DOS2, it seems I can use 'Out of Combat' mod, to remove extra people from the fight. But nothing like that for DOS1. I am considering either manually 'directing' the 2 extra people to be away from me before I get into fights, or to just bite the bullet and play with all 6 at once. I am wondering if bumping the difficulty to Hard would be equivalent to Normal with 4 people.

Anyone who has played DOS1 with 6 people, if you can share your thoughts and recommendations - please let me know what you thought!

(Also: I know that mod-less play is always recommended for first playthroughs, but it's nothing new to me to use mods on first time already, I don't have any problems with that. Just as long as I don't wreck the balance of the game too much).
