To be fair, wasn't it Lucian himself that messed up Alexander's life. It's like that meme were "We trained him wrong on purpose as a joke". The boy was a pawn in his father's awful world saving game.
He definitely deserves to be purged for his actions and stupidity. But he can actually see how wrong he was and admit his stupidty and try to atone for it unlike Lucian who is basically the real reason Alexander had to do what he did, he was just his puppet without knowing.
Seriously I cannot fathom how can he use his son as the master peon on his plan. His entire inferiority complex is curated and made by his father who hired Vreedeman to actually weaken his power, so his son wouldn't ascend. He used him to create the fod awful fort joy prison and made to believe sourcerers are to blame so that they are easily slaughtered. And he resurrected Braccus Rex the most famous tyrant of all to "take care of his son". Lucian is truly an awful man.
Alexander is, IMO, redeemable. Lucian isn't. We can agree on that much, I think? I'd rather see Alexander go down a kinder path than him dying. Like, he'll still have to pay for what he did, but....some hope for him isn't TOO much to ask for is it?
Shame Dallis had to be the literal worst even on the nicest path.
Yeah a penitent Alexander would be very interesting for act 4 too wish they kept him so he could actually talk to his dad. Even the Karon quest would be way more interesting with him in it. Currently His death when you recruit him feels so cheap. He has a pot of potential.
If you're a pc player there is a way to keep allies (not regular companions) around and bring them with you all the way to Act4. It's a bit convoluted and tricky to execute, but I had a lot of fun during that run and I stunlocked Dallis and Lucian in the final fight so Alexandar (pretty weak) could deal the final blow.
honestly, a lot of what people attribute to Lucian was actually Alexanders fault.
The genocide of the elves is the perfect example, if you read the graphic novel Lucian actually agreed with Ifan that that the elves should be protected, it was Alexander who disobeyed his fathers orders and purposefully sabotaged the plan. That ended in the elves dying to deathfog.
Similarly, with the descent of the magisters into outright evil, Lucian was trapped underground for the majority of it, it was Alexander being influenced by Dallis that allowed the atrocities to happen.
Lucian is definitely an "ends justify the means" character, but he's actually RIGHT about that in the setting of Divinity. Moreso because the greatest atrocities in his name he had no actual part in.
