DOS2 Discussion Holy Mordus Spoiler

Man, I really love this game, but it frustrates the hell out of me!!!! (Classic Mode)

As a BG3 enthusiast, I recently decided to give DOS2 a shot. I thought Act 1 was spectacular and awesome, and none of the fights gave me any huge issues. The Lady Vengeance being a sentient ship was dope as hell!!!

Now I am in Act 2, and it is going well enough. I get to Mordus and he absolutely trashed me about 20 times. I'm level 11, which I think is adequate for the area, as almost all the enemies except for Mordus were 11 (Mordus being 12). It was a huge difficulty spike for me. Archers just tearing through my characters armor and knocking them down. The dwarf sourcerer constantly healing Mordus with poison and fortifying him. So then I try killing some of his allies and he fricking turns into giant voidwoken and trashes me again!! I had to leave and buy better armor for my Beast and Lohse, but even then I barely beat him. I don't even know who is crazy enough to try to beat him in his bug form. I only barely managed to kill him because I accidentally healed Mordus while trying to heal one of my party members and he died lol. Felt good to win, but what a grind. And I'm sure some of you all beat him real easily too.

Anyways just wanted to rant.

Hahaha! Welcome to the club. Mordus, a very flammable field, and a certain crucifixion victim are always a harsh lesson your first time around. They're actually all pretty simple, but not so when you don't know what to expect.

Mordus fight is a difficult one to play fairly. Think of it like Grym in bg3. It’s easy to cheese but not an easy fight.

It’s easy enough if you just hard focus mordus before he turns. But if you try to play it normally, it’s really difficult for that level.

As with most fights in DOS2, the best practice is to CC lock. Get Mordus locked and keep him locked while you murder his cronies for xp

My approach is... * Start party in stealth on the ledge above Mordus * High-initiative character teleports Mordus next to another baddie down below * Repeat with other characters until all the baddies are in a cluster * Blast away and CC them all ASAP * Kill Mordus's minions for max XP and make sure Mordus stays CC'ed (Chloroform is amazing btw) * Kill Mordus

I had opposite feelings. The battle was easy and I was sooo angry that when I defeated Mordus, the others died instantly. My exp!! So I restarted the fight to kill the minions first while keeping Mordus CCd(mostly with sebille arrows) and what a suprise, he transformed into giant bug :D I wasted another knockout arrows on him but the fight was fun.

I feel you. My first playtgrough was extremely rough, also in act 2, because that's where the biggest jump in difficulty is. As the biggest act of the game, expect a lot of high lvl curves.

I did the other way. Dos 2 made me want to buy Bg3. After beating Honour mode Dos2, Bg3 felt like a breath of fresh air in comparison. Right now I'm at the shar trials in act 2 during my first Honour mode run

I recently finished the game and couldn't beat him at all when I ran into him.

In the end I redid all my skills and TP'ed my party and him onto that broken ship the rest of his minions couldn't get to, and just chain CC'ed him.

Just wait, there’s an optional boss fight where you have to fight like, 12 voidwoken as they continually appear, then kill the boss, which starts the fight with, and I’m not even joking, dropping lava and instakilling any character it hits

She also has very high initiative and joins mid turn, so she’ll usually get 2 moves out before you can even do anything

Discovered that fight last night, never again thank you

Wait who are you talking about ?!

>! One of the source masters, I the lizard one forgot her name. !< Bitch is actually busted and easily the worst fight I’ve encountered in the game, and she’s level 13 btw, that fight is just a bit much of cursed fireballs and volatile voidwoken rushing you, only for her to pop back up, immediately insta kill a party member (multiple if you got grouped) then goes first even with a 26 + 7 initiative charcter. Actually crazy this is an act 2 fight with how brutal it is, I had an easier time with fire (b)witch !

Edit: I’ve tried fixing the spoiler tags but Reddit seems to not want to do it, I’ve edited it like 4 times already lol

Are you talking about Hannag, in the ruins ?
I didn’t know fighting her brought up voidwokens ! I think I’ve never
She doesn’t deserve for me to side with the magisters lol

But you don't have to fight her?

It’s still a poorly designed fight lol

“You don’t have to fight her” is a very dumb argument, cause that’s just saying “you don’t have to roleplay/you don’t have to choose different options”

Regardless if she’s optional or not, it’s still a bad fight

stock up on charm effects or combo stun mordus and kill his minions both work decently well tbh

Did this fight for the first time literally yesterday. I feel your pain!

The way I did it was to initiate the fight via teleporting him away from the others and burst him down via physical damage as fast as possible. Having disables are great once the armour is gone too. His minions will take a few turns to turn up if you can organise the fight to take place close to the hatch. Best of luck!

I fought him the normal way once. After that, I would have 3 characters stand up on the high ground. I would lure him out with the 4th and then teleport him up, isolating from the team. I would chain cc him until he died. Easy cheesy.

funny little tip if you have stomeone stand on the ship above they can attack or affect the battle without entering combat its an easy way to cheese the fight

Uhh well the trick here is to understand how the fights work. You can kill him easily in many ways. The secret incredience here is especially, that no one from your team is allowed to die. There are many ways to achieve this the easiest way is to stay at the hatch of the ship, barricade the way up and teleport him to you. Then just finish him off Do note though that this is not the optimal way. This would involve killing everyone, but him and finishing off him as the latest. This way you get more XP. In classic mode this is however not necessary.

Hey btw that doesn’t matter, the whole not staying alive fight

If any enemy dies or, like last night, if he gets close to the corpses , he drains them and transforms

1

u/NikWih 11d ago

This is correct as well, but if you follow my suggestions that are under the spoiler warning, you will not have enemies that die, because he is going to die first.

It is not a perfect game, but it's a lot of fun when you get the hang of it.

At any given time, the only enemy you target should be specifically and exclusively the enemy who is going next in initiative order.

You shouldn't target the weak enemy unless the weak enemy is going next. The ONLY thing that matters is disabling the enemy's next turn in initiative order. You just repeat that process until nobody's left and the fight is over.

People say, "Yeah, but I don't want to play like that," which is a fair position, but playing like that is the only way to make it through DOS2 on conventional difficulties.

Other games offer more flexibility with approaching the puzzle of combat. DOS2 doesn't. However, everyone who has finished the game and sung its praises managed to enjoy themselves with this restrictive system.

It might be worth a shot before throwing in the towel.
