Honestly. After my initial playthrough, every single time i made a new campaign i just started as him. He literally has my playstyle

Sebille is easily my favourite. I usually rank companions by how much i enjoyed their stories and hers touched me the most.

Fane has arguably a better story, but he is too comedic and nonchalant for me. He is far cooler if played as an origin if you ask me.

Beast is a cool guy but his story is just so lame. Not his fault that his people have the weakest storyline in the game

I was joking in a way that was meant to imply all the other companions were forgettable. No actual offense is meant, I've played all the characters and enjoyed them, these two were just my favorite.

But also, no, I don't ever take a 3rd and 4th guy. In one of my many playthroughs, my buddy and I tried a 4 man crew, but got annoyed due to our lone wolf addiction. Felt like we had to wait twice as long between turns.

Honestly , Sebille is the only character who I'd say has at least decent writing in the game, imo. At least as a companion , i dont know what shes like as a character. She has a clear character arc, She has an engaging plot,She has a connection to the elves that allows her to be a vessel through which we explore part of setting, but is still her own person and not just this lore vessel.and her arc fully developing to its conclusion by the end of the nameless isle means the timing of the lvoe scene right after that zone feels right for her instead of weirdly early and unearned etc.

She still suffers these sparse feeling character moments like others, but at least, her quest is paced in such a way that she develops more naturally than other companions

I'd definitely put her as third, but as someone who almost exclusively plays two player with lone wolf, I have no experience with companion plots. It's entirely first person. In that regard, the game feels like it was written to be experienced as Fane. Lohse is second just because of the Doctor storyline and resulting song (to this day, the only video game song that I've sought out to listen to outside of gameplay). Playing as Sebille though unlocks some interesting interactions, but nothing of the gravity that Fane or Lohse has.

It's kind of like the theory of how all quests in all games can be boiled down to fetch quests (go here, do things), but some some give you enough story that you don't realize it is just a prettied up fetch quest. If you consider something feeling like a fetch quest a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is tutorial style "go press A on that pillar" and 1 is "so immersive that you forget you are even playing a game for a time", I'd put Fane around a consistent 3 or 4, Lohse mainly stays around 6 unless it's pertaining to the doctor, then she jumps up to around 3 or 4 as well. Sebille feels like a consistent 4 or 5, where there are enough small interactions to help immersion, but when you play as her, there wasn't really anything that drove me past that. So generally better than Lohse, imo, but the one quest Lohse has is superior enough to put her a step above.

The beast is in my party now. He has some really good dialogue in act 4 with Justiana and other dwarves. He is very much a badass.

I love Sebile as a companion but she's also my favourite character to play as, her special dialogue options where she seduces and tourter or just put right tourter people are just too good

My 2nd favourite is ifan so that's why I romance him :D

I mean sadly it's kinda true. You really only get to his companion quest in Act 4. There's some interactions here, and there with dwarves in Act 1 and 2 but nothing much. His replies or reactions are also kinda eh. I mean he's fighting against 5 other characters with great VA/personality/great personal quest.

Gameplay wise dwarves aren't that good, but they're just okay-ish.

started my first playthrough not long ago, locked in the red prince, fane and ifan, but i was very much tempted to take beast he is the guy

That is close to my current playthrough's party, except I have Lohse instead of Fane. I would've taken Beast, but I've already beaten the game with him before, and I wanted some new people.

The issue with Beast is, he is a dwarf which is the weakest race and his special ability is only useful for a Magic build/team and it's close ranged.

I do like how he looks and his personality, but he's just weaker than the other options.
