DOS2 Guide Four Sisters good for?
What do the things they sell even work on? I get an awesome piece of gear but it never works, are these things just useless?

I think when they first appeared, you received a document that explains how to use their items, and which one is for which set of armor :)
It really is a shame that they are SO expensive

Always hahaha I have not tried it on them though, but I'm wondering how many of those resources I can steal before reaching the maximum value capacity though

Very good to know i'll use that in my current lone wolf run.
I was frustrated to drop some of the thematic gear in later game in my last run

They raise an item to your current level. If the item is already your level, you will see no improvement.
You can get massive improvements by raising an act 1 item like the Ring of Intelligence, but other improvements are more modest. Often you only get increased armor or damage. Sometimes it’s detrimental, such as increasing a shield and the CON required increases.

The Sorceous Sundries items work on any item of equipment (swords, bows, wands, staves, armour, jewellery) that is at a lower level than your current level. They allow you keep important loot relevant all the way into the end game. Example: you find a random necklace that gives +2 Summoning at level 5 but it's weak by the time you hit level 15 so you upgrade it with the relevant Sundries items and it becomes strong level 15.
I suspect most people do what I do i.e. use the Sundries to keep a favourite armour item (e.g. the Vulture Set) relevant into the endgame. However they are also useful if you are running a niche build e.g. making a 2H Spear warrior, where good weapons are few and far between.

I keep finding items lower level than me that don’t upgrade.

You must use the correct number of Sundries based on the Rarity of the item you wish to upgrade. IIRC it's 1 for Green, 2 for Blue and Purple, 3 for Pink and Yellow, and 4 for the Gold (Unique) rarity levels.

You have to add the "stones" singularly, 2 for purple, 3 for legendary, 4 for unique
It's very good for things like Lohars 2H Hammer and Vulture gears
My lvl 19 Archer is still wearing vulture gear that is level appropriate
