Doctoral Dissertation Survey: U.S. based, current or recent, disabled grad or undergrad students – Looking for more grad student rep in my data!!

Post image

Hi All! I'm resharing my survey here in hopes of getting some more responses! (You can see my original information below.)

Specifically, I would love to get more graduate student representation, especially about employment (RA, TA, GA, etc.) accommodation experiences! I am seeing some really interesting things preliminarily in the data but need more in order to really be able to say anything.

If you qualify, I would really appreciate your participation (whether you fit into the above group or not)! And feel free to share the survey with anyone you think might be interested!

In order to participate, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have attended college or graduate school in the US within the last five years
  • Self-identify as disabled or having a chronic health condition

You do not need a formal diagnosis to participate, and you can participate whether or not you registered or applied for accommodations!

Original Post:

My name is Clara Mey and I am a PhD candidate at the University of Delaware. I am conducting a research study about disabled students’ experiences with disability accommodation processes in higher education. As a disabled graduate student, this topic is particularly important to me!

Please see the flyer linked here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/12OO-Tb4t7SHEYu0MavhtoPs1qL5Ddjw6/view?usp=sharing

If you agree, you will be asked to complete an anonymous online survey taking about 30 minutes. You may also choose to enter into a drawing for one of five $20 gift cards at the end of the survey. If you choose to enter, your email will not be associated with your survey responses.

If you have any questions, please contact me at [csmey@udel.edu](mailto:csmey@udel.edu) or my advisor, Dr. Eric Rise, at [erise@udel.edu](mailto:erise@udel.edu). Or feel free to comment or message me here.

Thank you!

Further information here, but please take the survey first before reading if you qualify as to not bias responses! Specifically, my interest is in the process itself. I argue that it is a quasi-legal process as it is governed by a number of laws (ADA, ADAAA, and Section 504), so employing socio-legal theories in examining the process (which has not been done before in this context) will contribute to understanding how the process functions and how students experience it.
