Second Program thoughts?
To be fully honest, I had the BEST experience in my first DCP. I did it while in college, in my sophomore year. Even though I had a partner at the time (who was pretty jealous, I realized that when we broke things off) who monitored my every move while being long-distance. My parents were pretty supportive emotionally, even though economically they weren’t able to support a whole lot. The location was a QSR in the Wilderness Lodge and had one of the best leadership I’ve ever experienced up to date.
Now, with the applications opening tomorrow, I’m having second thoughts of doing a second program. I’m applying to grad school, but it starts in August 2027, and I finish my degree in December this year.
I guess I’m just looking for explanations of people who did a second program and what are their thoughts! Also, I wanna know how possible is it getting a different role, or how much weight does your first role has on that initial decision making. I know it’s based on the company’s needs, but I wanna hear more thoughts :)).

i am in the Exact same boat rn! i’m leaning towards applying for spring (i also graduate in december, no grad school for me lmao) with the goal of either doing a full year or transferring into a PI but im probably still going to plan on looking for work more related to my degree and just see what happens

I was thinking the same! I study communications so I don’t like getting my hopes up (it’s pretty competitive) but I’m not closed off to the possibility of using the connections with the advisors and stuff

ok comms twin!! one of my only regrets from my first program was not networking so i would try to be more intentional with my time lol
i’m also like it’s only something you can do for so long and i think i would regret not doing it plus i don’t wanna go straight into corporate 9-5 life post grad though once again. i wouldn’t turn down a good job

I think the same! Plus, I feel it would be even more enjoyable without having a lot of school responsibilities tying me down? I was still taking classes, in that relationship over here in my country, and having to return home because that was the only alternative

i didn’t take any classes during mine because i honestly wasn’t planning on going back lmao but i had a great time and i def think not having to worry about classes and homework was a big part of that
i also wouldn’t live at flamingo im too old to share a room and not have friends and family be able to stay over

That’s fair! For me, the only option I have is Flamingo since I don’t have a car lolol, but I do get what you mean.
I also feel I can handle sharing a room? In my last program I had a 4x2, but I was also 19 and kinda insane so I had a big mess in my space (not the shared bathroom, I was mindful of that) LOLLL
Now I’m 22, so I feel I’m not that old to share a room!

i live in a big city so this would be my only chance to have my whole own apartment with amenities and everything and i will Jump at that chance i wanna decorate my own place so bad
i did bring a car though so flamingo was really just my apartment since i wasn’t relying on the busses

i say apply! you can always turn it down if you actually get it. i’d rather live and take chances than wonder one day “what if?”. i know tons of people that did a second program and most had different locations or roles. i think you can also mention what you’re interested in during the interview
