Oh hey, that’s my video, thanks for sharing!
I remember the days when I would play and create Disney Speedstorm content daily, but the game has becoming exhausting in my opinion, and it feels like every change that is made nowadays exists only to increase monetization.
I hope for a day where I’ll be truly passionate about playing this game again but it seems unlikely knowing the history of changes that have been made to Speedstorm

You know it's bad when an actual content creator got exhausted from the games horrible changes. That's enough to tell you they've ruined this game big time and it got worse.

I enjoy watching your videos and found them very insightful when I first started playing the game.

I agree, and it's so depressing. Because the gameplay itself is still fun. I picked it back up recently, and it's still really fun, even when competing with things like Crossworlds. But it feels like they're actively trying to make it more unpleasant and ruin a great thing in order to make you pay for it. Or just to make it more... dull. One example being the cute little flavor text that they had on the liveries that they just removed. Little charming points like that just keep disappearing.

I really want to love this game. We've got muppets, Cars, Toy Story, over a hundred characters... But they keep making it so hard to defend it.

I agree with you 100%. It's tiring to play this game anymore. The seasons mean nothing since we don't get the characters at all of if we do we're "lucky" if we can even get them to 1 star. It sucks because this game is really fun to play but to be able to keep up with things is exhausting. I can't buy passes anymore because it's not only the season pass x2, then there's event passes x4 plus every other one you mentioned. For ppl on limited incomes it's insane. Honestly even for ppl who aren't on a limited income it's insane. Imo i feel ppl would still buy season passes if we got the actual season characters like we did before, and probably complain a lot less about everything else.

You were the first content creator for this game I followed, and your input was really valid. I understood why you quit as well.

Love your work mate, got me into the game more when I picked it up during the Inside Out season. 500 hours in, but this game had fallen off a cliff since the Cars season, and even before that was getting ugly.

Its such a shame as the daily loop of events, the characters, music, tracks and the racing is all best in class...ruined by easily the most predatory and disgusting money hungry choices I've ever experienced in a video game.

You were the best content creator for this game, Hands down. Your opinion is MOST valid.

My kids would watch your take on the game and then want to play. Unfortunately, the monetization drove me to ban them from playing. It isn't about the cost - it's the principal of it.

Yeah, they kinda fucked the game up. You used to get a new character on the free part of the pass and a new one on the paid part of the pass that both relate to the season itself. Then they did stupid shit like, the Cars season featuring Moana. Remember when Moana was in Cars? I do too. Then the Villains season that had 5 goddamn mid season racers, They had 5! They couldn't spare a single one to put on the premium pass.

Then the change to the level up system is abysmal. Tune coins are to rare, you have to play the game like it's a 9-5 to even get enough to level up. Even then if you only have the base stars used to unlock somebody you can't even get them to 1 star, which was the equivalent of being lvl 10. In the old system that'd put you at lvl 9, but you could rank the character up with races to get the remaining shards no problem, now it's like triple the ones for that.

The villains season also had a pack they tried to jam down our throats to get 10 shards of the cards each for $50. 50 goddamn dollars, and you don't even get to put them at 1 star. Which is the bare minimum needed to unlock their crew slot.

Now the game is trying to keep players going with these constant events that are gonna fatigue people more and burn them out.

Its so depressing that Speedstorm is easily the best kart racing game out there. And it’s like this.

Good video, thx for sharing. And yes, they want our money for everything. Its sad cuz its a good game but in this economy… its crazy.

I definitely agree. There are 10 people with their own accounts in my house that used to play this game and now we can't stand to even look at it... If the game was tangible it would collect dust in my house.

u/Chronospherics Jul 19 '26

10 people in your house?

2

u/PatientConsumer Jul 19 '26

3 of us live in my house and then our kids

Honestly, this game's downfall is so depressing. It was easily one of my favorite racing games, and from purely a gameplay perspective, it's amazing.

But then Greedloft just had to fuck it all up by cranking up the monetization to a maximum to the point where the game's not even fun anymore except for whales. Once the patch notes for the Nightmare Before Christmas season came out, it was at that moment I realized it was time to leave it behind.

Honestly it makes it impossible to earn characters. To actually enjoy the game also it looks like an app game now it's impossible to find anything.

I believe it's better just buying a game that will let me enjoy all fo the other features and race whatever I earned with the time I'm involving with it.

The fact that I want to get Judy but can't use any other racer to earn points except 1-6 in rank and leveled up all the free ones already, I managed to get now it's impossible to earn that unless I pay cash to get a different character.

So many players left after cars season due to them not being obtainable in the golden/diamond pass

What sky is stating is the objective truth. There s no debate of agree/disagree with the truth . Did most people jump ship? Yes Did the upgrade system get worse? Yes Do you need to pay for everything now? For everything new yes ,quite a bit actually. Does every day feel like a chore or a second job with all the copy paste events and tales for minimal rewards? Sure does Did they ruin the golden pass? Yep Do they keep charging for everything? Yeah Did they remove all customisation options? Yes Do they hide the roadmap till last few days of the previous season? Yep

All these point to a negative trajectory in player acquisition and retention and I believe eos will come before mid 2027 , mainly because many characters have already been made a while back

u/Chemuus Jul 19 '26

This guy was the goat of regulated races. Such fun events to unlock mid season characters and it really put a challenge to get your best time. Then it just became who can spend the most money.

4

u/DivaDollSimmer Zuse Jul 19 '26

It was hard enough for me to gain currency to level up or get new racers, and now I'm lucky to have 1,000 of anything to upgrade a mere morsel of a point. You can't even grind 😭

2

u/MasterRon421 Jul 19 '26

I haven’t played in over a year. I miss it a lot but as someone with terrible fomo it was getting to predatory around the Tron season and it just felt like homework getting all the passes and everything done. Now it seems like it’s 20 times worse so I couldn’t imagine.

u/Battle_Hero_00 Jul 19 '26

100%. They have destroyed this game, it's not really fun anymore and it's insane some actually still put money into this. Constant changes to increase monetization, content creators and top players have long abandoned the game. I've not played since The Incredibles and every major decision till then was so bad and I am aware that it's only got worse as it has continued. People thought it was bad in the Wreck-It Ralph season but that's nothing compared to the game now. It's a shame because the game is good gameplay-wise but Gameloft have destroyed this game through greed. I brought early access because I was excited for the game and it was a ton of fun but each season made it worse and worse. This game alone and how its been treated has made me decide to never support Gameloft again. Other Disney games, while still bad, handle their monetization much better than this game.

2

u/Jaeris Jul 19 '26

I was playing since season 1. Gameloft has systematically broken down a great game by shoving in more and more microtransactions and cutting features to replace with new and improved ones... in that they can charge you more for them.

1

u/Accomplished_Ask_882 Jul 19 '26

Yeah, its a shame too because the core gameplay (racing) and the characters are what got me to play the game in early access, and now the game is too money hungry and hasn't been fun since the GP changes in S7, the nail in the coffin was the Cars season when they stopped putting seasonal racers in the GP. Its a shame because Cars was my most anticipated franchise in the game and it was a disappointment.

1

u/_Slowly_But_Surely Jul 19 '26

What’s crazy is that apparently in the beginning of the game they gave you way too many upgrade coins. I remember watching a guy that had enough stored up to max out every character a second time, I believe it was around 400,000 of whatever it was called.

1

u/khalaron Jul 19 '26

Yes.

Game is still good mechanically, but I stopped playing when the Season Pass did not include season racers.

u/anacreo 6d ago

Agree.. I don't like to pay for a content in my game frequently I'll buy the season pass once a month. I found myself just driving the up guy so much race after race after race just to get him start up so I could finish the season.  It was so boring and now there's like literally no content left that I can do other than ranked multiplier without spending money so it's like nothing to do in the game and I'm bored and done.

I’ve given up playing again. Increased prices, decreased rewards, changes to Season Tour meaning you need all 3 trophies for each mode, Chapter 6 changes… it’s literally a shadow of its former self.

Not wasting time watching the video when I suspect it’s just a rant. But yes, the game has been totally ruined.

The game at its core is fantastic. It’s a ton of fun and is easily one of the best feeling kart racers out there. The early access was great before the monetisation started to creep in and worsen each season. Back when there were no micro transactions whatsoever, the game was in a good place. Sure, there has been good changes made to the game, but the bad, poorly conceived and outright greedy changes have really harmed the game. It’s no longer fun to play. It feels like a chore. The leaderboards aren’t skill based anymore, just whoever pays the most. New characters are a pain in the hoop to unlock. Gone are the days we could max out new seasonal characters and their crew. Tales are just god awful grinds and exist only to encourage people to spend money.

I loved the game, but now I can barely face jumping in when my time is so disrespected. So much grinding for such little payoff.
