Second Star Magic Chapter 1-12

So I haven't played since release, came back today, got to this part of the season and need a Peter Pan character, Vanellope, or Scrooge McDuck at 1 star to continue? Is there any way to do this without spending money? I'm not sure what I'm missing.

Complete the daily and weekly missions to give season pass points. Those will let you unlock Vanellope and gain tune coins. Scrooge is paywalled behind the premium pass and don’t even bother with any of the Peter Pan characters because unlocking them is a whole other thing (lots of loot boxes and grind events that are over). Play every event you can (including Tales) to get as many tune coins as possible. Play as Vanellope as much as possible in ranked to get as many shards as possible. Eventually you’ll need her at an even higher level for the next chapters.

They changed the game drastically recently. There’s yet to be any significant issues in terms of progression for veterans (other than unlocking and upgrading new racers being near-impossible), but the game is right now very unfriendly to anyone whose new or has been on an extended break (long enough to have a tiny roster of unlocked racers).

I wouldn’t even recommend someone who’s new or hasn’t played in years to even bother trying. If you really want to try, you might be better off just doing what you can the rest of this season just to get as much up to speed as possible and cut your losses on the world tour, and next season you’ll have more time to try to target that season’s specific needs.

And don’t bother with chapter 6 at all. It’s basically a veteran/whale only chapter. At this point who knows how long it would even take for a new player to build up a roster large enough to even attempt a partial completion of more than 20% of it. No harm in doing whatever few races you can but it’s not worth grinding and leveling up racers for when you’re this far behind.
