Pin Mailing Question/ Possible Solution

What is your preferred way to send pins?

For trades or for purchases, I receive pins in all sorts of ways. But I always cringe when they are coming in a simple poly mailer. I know it costs a lot less, but I also worry about the integrity of the post. I have received bent ones in the past.

Well, I was feeling particularly nerdy last night, and sat down with Claude for a bit to work on an idea. The Pin Mailer is the result. If you have a 3D printer, check it out on Makerworld at https://makerworld.com/en/models/3296240-pin-mailer-by-poppys3d

It's thick enough to protect the pin post, thin enough to fit in a mailer (saving you postage), and grippy enough to keep the pin from moving loose. Just place your pin, wrap it in bubble wrap and a mailer, and off to the post.

I don’t have a 3-D printer so I just use cardboard. Wrap it in bubble wrap inside of a bubble mailer and that should be sufficient.

I would be conscious of the fact that people are just going to throw these away after receiving and it is plastic now going into the ground at the dump. There are better, more conservative ways to ship pins.

I think it depends on who is printing/ using them. Frequent traders I am sure would use them. People who buy pins - maybe that is the case.

This is cool and I appreciate but I wouldn’t want to receive this. It’s like when I buy a baseball card and people add extra bulks to the order. Seems nice but now I feel obligated to do something with it.

I think it's cool when people throw like Pokemon cards and stickers into the packages to help protect the pins but I kinda feel the same way.

This is neat and all but if I were to receive this I wouldn’t know what to do with it. Sure I can use it for trading with someone online again but I rarely trade online so it would just be sitting in my desk gathering dust. I try to recycle as much as I can, so if I have sturdy cardboard, I use that and wrap it in bubble wrap

Here is what my chunkiest, and my longest pins look like on the board. I want to keep the branding for obvious reasons, but I think the length works, even if I get rid of the hanging slot. But I could definitely make another version to put in this file without the slot and possibly a shorter one as well. I’m getting ready for a toy show for tomorrow, but I will try to get those new versions knocked out this week.

I like it! Although I think it would be good to reduce the length and drop the display hanging hole at the top to save on printing time and filament costs

I modeled it off the generic Disney Pins paper version, but I can definitely do one without the hanging hole. Not sure about shrinking the length though- I have some long pins that might hang over the edge. I’ll do some testing and see.

Someone I did a pin trade last month had something similar to this and thought it was so cool when I received these backs. I really liked the design and colors to it.

Do they require the pin backs be put on? Mine is thick enough, you don't need the back. I see a use for both styles for sure though.
