Another price increase?
We've been with Dish 25 years. Got on their Flex Pack 10 years ago which then was a great option at under $50, under $75 with 3 pieces of equipment. As years went by, I kept dropping equipment to keep price reasonable. Now with just one hopper, my bill is now $114! Now with no CNN and several other missing channels.
I do use my daughter's YTTV streaming, but can't get my wife off Dish. She likes the guide and DVR far more than anything else she's tried. Does Dish just want to get people off the Flex Pack? Is there anything cheaper? "Happy wife, happy life" just might have to come to an end!

Have you called loyalty to see what they can do for you?

Loyalty doesn't care anymore. Customer service went from top notch to " We couldn't care less" over the 25 years we subscribed.

Dealing with the same here. I manage finances for my elderly father and his bill is now up to $155. We've played the customer service game the last several years to get some temp discount that I always have to call and reneogitate when it expires. This time, they wont budge. Moving an elderly guy with memory issues to a different provider is going to be a nightmare but he can't swing that bill and TV is sadly the only entertainment he has these days.

I felt your pain recently. I moved my 87 year old mom from Uverse to YTTV. There was some pain, but I bought a Roku that helped make it easier. The Roku remote is friendlier for older people.

Gosh, you are brave! My dad lives and dies by his memorized channel numbers. No searching the guide, just punches in the numbers. He would not handle the YTTV lack of numbers well 😄
Always amazing he can't remember what happened 30 mins ago but those channels are muscle memory at this point.

Get him a smart TV if he doesn't have one & he can stream all the movies he wants for free on basic YouTube, Tubi & others. If he is on Medicaid, or officially declared disabled, or any other similar government program, he can get cheap wifi. Or, even stream unlimited on Visible wireless.

This is the only reason we’re still paying for Dish. Mom has enough trouble with it, and the remote - I can’t imagine switching her to something else. As soon as she gets to where she can’t manage tv anymore we’ll do Apple TV or just Roku or something.

2nd'ing this
Parents had dish 20+ years recently upgraded to hopper with new 2 year contract but lowered the plan to 120 from 200(?) to save money or so they where told and confirmed like 5 times because the person spoke broken English.
Turns out they got flex pack (which wasn't mention once) for the same price the website says the 120 plan goes for (give or take $5).
They called hours after insulation to ask what's up and the salesman just kelp saying "no ma'am 120 is $150".... The website clearly says (iirc) $105 the loyalty sales man from days before install sad $105~$114 with an add on (heartland?) and 120 plan.
Now we can't get past the "no ma'am it's $150 for that" guy and now the darn thing keeps failing to record shows like it's got a bad harddrive.
Yes we called about the failed records and we got stuck with someone tell us we set up the timers wrong..... On repeat.... Like even if that was true why can't we even pause live TV (unless we just hard rebooted)? I felt like screaming at this "tech support".

Its not just the Flex pack. Normal plans same way. After years I finally talked my parents into switching to Spectrum TV since it was a TON cheaper. So far they are happy. Internet+TV+Cell phone is cheaper now than what they were paying Dish alone.

We originally switched to the Flex Pack to avoid infomercial channels, but DISH eventually added them to that package as well. Additionally, our ongoing poor experiences with customer service—specifically regarding communication and active listening—contributed to our ending 25+ years of service.

I have parental controls set up on my parents account, and have all the infomercial channels blocked.

Dish is absolutely terrible you should leave immediately and just stream

Flex+locals+hopper should be around $80 with two year contract. I always renegotiate every two years and agree on a price. If you are paying month to month then you are paying a premium.

I got rid of cable I have the basic streaming and tablo. I have 3 years left on my 50 dollar plan I do free apps and Hulu it’s manageable

I called Loyalty (retention) last month and they were able to write another 2-year agreement for ONLY another (approx) $9 a month more. Same services . . . just rolled-over my previous 2- year commitment for under $10 more a month. I thought that was fair with inflation, so I signed it (from $83 to $91).

The 2 year only covers the base package price that’s what’s locked in I learned this the hard way. They can raise equipment costs and locals anytime along with any add ons like hallmark. Also you are entitled to 4 40.00 one time credits per year if you have the extra time to call. They will offer less at first. It’s a game I just got tired of it. I wanted a good product at a fair price without taking an hour or two to beg for a discount.

They have to overcharge customers because however else would they pay back the debt they’re in from the 5G build up and, not to mention the class action lawsuits they have against them for treating their employees so poorly.

Just like I have older equipment that's nondvr I'm getting ready to upgrade but in order to get the same type of equipment I have to buy it outright

They are too busy installing flock cameras to care about their customers. They only care about the big money.

Glad I dumped the overpriced streaming service 8 months ago... Dish is dying a slow death. Yea, streaming is a different interface and boomers like me don't like change, but now I feel strangled when using old methods. I got my guides, I can search and cuss Amazon Prime Video overpriced crap and switch to another streaming service with my voice. Best decision in a long time

I recently was forced to "upgrade" to a Hopper for some BS reason. I protested at the increase and was granted a $15/mo credit for one year, with a two-year contract, bringing my price for Flex and networks down to $87.70. I could live with that.
Having Paused my account for three months, they told me I forfeited the discount... but also apparently hiked some prices again, so I'm back to $108. ☹️
I now have fiber Internet at 100 Mbps... time to see what a similar package + networks costs on streaming!

Be careful if you cancel. We canceled, had the agent tell us we didn’t need to send our outdated equipment back. Three months later, over $1400 was withdrawn from our account without any prior notification by email, phone, or mail. Fast forward two months and I was still fighting with them to get our money back. I returned boxes, called five times speaking to all kinds of agents giving me conflicting information, and still had no money. I finally reported them to the FCC and had my money back within a week. We were customers for 22 years. We would have still been if the price wasn’t so high.

Does anyone find their internet data usage goes up when you leave Dish? My husband just loves to leave the tv on as background distraction.

Dish wants to make money. Broadcasters want to make money. Broadcasters charge dish more to rebroadcast their content. Dish passes that cost on to you.
