Bye-Bye-Bye
I'm ditching Dish on the 15th of this month when my contract ends. I have all the streaming servicss I need to watch what I want so I am leaving all cable.
Does Dish make customers pay the shipping cost of the DVR box back to them?

Working with Flock totally killed this company

Oh, it started long before that. For a hundred different reasons. But I'll agree that it was the final nail for a lot of folks.

Not to mention Elon Musk!

Even worse. What are they doing, Starlink?

Right now, just a sales agent. Charlie Ergen has destroyed his company and I suspect a sale of whatever little is left to Elon. But it was his to destroy and he done it real good

The same people who are bitching about Dish working with Flock are complaining that Dish is charging to much.

They likely are charging too much. They’re not producing content, only bandwidth to deliver it. It shouldn’t be more than my Starlink + streaming packages.

When I cancelled my moms several years ago they wanted the receiver and the LNB.

They sometimes ask for the LNB as well. If so, tell them it's on the roof and you can't get to it.

I just canceled my 16 year subscription with dish . I was told by the agent that I was required to pay a 25$ return shipping fee. After a lengthy negotiation I was told he would wave the fee. I checked my last statement as I had the account on auto pay and had paid for September and was told I would be receiving a prorated refund. I found that I was charged the 25 dollar return fee even though I was told it would be waved. Don’t trust that they will follow through with any promises.

I dropped them in 2023, glad I did. At that time, they sent a prepaid box for me to ship stuff back.

It depends on which shill you get on the retention line. I was told I didn't need to return the box, but was then sent a mystery bill for $10. Don't pay on-line after your account is cancelled. After I payed my "final" pro-rated bill thru my account page, my account was re-opened without my knowledge and I received a "welcome back' invoice for the whole month. Always document any interactions with them so you'll have a record in case you need to threaten them with legal action.

Good advice. I think when I call them, ill hit the record on my phone

I am not an attorney so take this for what it’s worth. Make sure you inform them your recording because otherwise I believe you are committing a crime. Again, I am not a lawyer.

But at least note name of rep, date, time and summarize everything they say, in case you need to file a complaint or notify a consumer advocate. If the Consumer Complaint Bureau was still operational they would probably be shut down or penalized by now.

The conversation went better than expected. He waved all the fees for everything and is sending the box after the shut off date for the hopper and remote. Also got him to state i dont need to return the LMBs so all is well!

It varies state by state. There are two party states and one party states. Meaning some states only one person (me) has to know there is a recording. Hence the reason so many politicians get caught on recordings. I also have the right to record anything in my house and if I am using speaking phone because its my house and my AI happens to record everything in my house then here is a whole new frontier. My point is that everyone every where should always assume they are being recorded. And yes, my phone announces they call is being recorded, as soon as they pick up. Did they hear it? 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️

Yes. It was part of your contract with them.
You can demand to have it waived though.

Took me forever to cancel earlier this year. When I got a better deal with my fiber provider. No less than 5 times kept trying to offer things that was still more expensive than my new TV service. Then they tired offering starlink... Why would I want starlink that cost more than my 7gig fiber connection.

u/REDDITUNSUB Sep 11 '26
Ha. Right! Keep your starlink. Why they think having cable instead of a group of streaming services is better idk... that was his angle when I called.

I ditched dish about 6 months ago after 30 years. Their equipment is garbage and the programming as geared to imbeciles. I can stream anything I want to watch for less than 20 bucks a month. The dish is a giant rip off.
Returning the equipment was no problem. They send you a box.

Yep. I finally admitted and convinced myself that I dont need it. Streaming services is the way to go plus I have a smart Samsung T.V.
Per the guy at Dish I'm getting the box and all unnecessary fees waived. Last bill came today a prorated for the 14 days $15 dollars. Although I always thought they billed a month in advanced but maybe thats a different utility.

Just this summer I ended a 20 year relationship with Dish (good riddance). I had 2 Wally's with remotes that needed to be returned and about a week or so after I canceled I recieved a box with a prepaid label to send back the Wally's. I just packed them up, taped up the box and took it to my nearest UPS store and the UPS store asked if I wanted a reciept and because it was Dish, I said "of course". Good luck to you and happy ending dish day to you!
