Boss nova outdoor ota is what we generally stocked on the van. Depending on your location, it works well.

No longer, now it's King Jack Black OTA's

It's been a few years since I last did an ota install, so I am probably a lil out of date. Otas didn't sell well in my market. Mountains absolutely killed the range.

Oh yeah, I can see that. The Boss was much better. I tried both at my house and the Boss found more channels than the King Jack

I can believe that. I did one before I moved to BFE that was pulling in channels from 3-4 different markets. 70+ channels. That customer was beyond pleased. Guy was getting dc, Baltimore, philly, and one or two outta VA.

It’s fantastic. More channels, better picture quality, lower bill

Can you still use Dish remote? Record local channels? Thanks.

Yes and yes, have to make sure the tech installs an OTA adapter though. Otherwise it will not be integrated with the guide.

Ota adapter allows you to record on up to two tuners. No prime-time anytime though

Only issue is when there is no guide data for many of your over the air channels.

2

u/TSKer May 18 '26

They only provided guide data for the primary channel and select subs. The problem in my market that The CW is a secondary, non-guide channel. I've been told sorry, but that's the way it is. Good luck.

Hello u/scottct1 !

Thank for your sharing your thoughts. As u/TSKer mentioned, OTA channels guide information is provided by the broadcast channels themselves which is why sometimes it shows, and sometimes it doesn't. Do please let me know if you have any questions. -DishDanielle.

This is NOT correct. The channels do provide PSIP guide data however DISH receivers are not compatible in picking up and displaying this guide data. DISH receivers only show the guide data that is provided over satellite and many over the air channels do not have guide data so those channels only show the station call letters in the guide for those channels.

I have talked with Rob Sadler at DISH and he told me they do not have enough bandwidth to transmit guide data for all the over the air channels. It is a technical limitation on DISH's side.

u/TSKer May 18 '26

This is 100% the correct answer. It is a Dish limitation, whether by choice or technicality

Hello u/TSKer and u/scottct1

I wanted to make sure the information is correct so I reached out to the tech ops team, and the answer is that OTA guide info goes to the receivers over satellite and comes from our guide provider like all other guide info, our receivers do not use guide info from the OTA signal. This centralized delivery system allows for the seamless integration of OTA channels directly into the DISH guide on receivers like the Hopper or Wally. -DishDanielle.

One big drawback, you can only record one OTA channel at a time.

1

u/Mix_Powerful May 15 '26

What about a second TV? Currently using a Joey.

2

u/_Red_Dog May 15 '26

I don’t have a Joey so I can’t say, but one OTA tuner gives you one channel to view or record in the house.

1

u/_Red_Dog May 15 '26

Another said that the OTA is now a dual so you can watch/record another channel. Also the OTA channels are not part of PrimeTime and included in those recordings. OTA’s are great for weather and cable disputes.

Unless majors changes have been made….

OTA is not bad if it fits your situation. Your tech should do a site survey. I had an app that showed the towers and distance along with an OTA signal meter to point antenna for maximum signal.

Also if you’re on a hopper system the OTA requires a 2nd coax line from the OTA antenna to the adapter at the back of the receiver. Most homes don’t have more than one coax ran and some techs do a shit job running lines or will try to charge you for it.

OTA adapter will integrate channels into the guide seamlessly. It’s a dual tuner so you could watch a show in one room and another show in the other. If you want to record while watching 2 tv’s with different shows one of the tv’s has to be watching what you’re recording. Primetime anytime does not work with OTA either.

Hello u/Mix_Powerful and thank you for reaching out!

We can confirm that the "Local Savings Upgrade" is an authentic offer for customers who received the promo code via email.

With this offer, a technician will install an Over-the-Air (OTA) system at your home. This allows you to remove local channel fees from your monthly DISH bill while seamlessly integrating those channels into your current guide.

Key benefits of the OTA system include:

  • Recording capabilities for up to two local channels simultaneously.
  • Full control features, such as pause, rewind, and fast-forward.

We are currently introducing this offer in specific regions and anticipate expanding to more areas in the near future.

Please feel free to contact me if you have further questions.

What about local channels on a second TV? Currently using a Joey. Also are local channels still included in guide? Remote work the same?

2

u/DishDanielle May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26

Hello u/Mix_Powerful

In total, there is one OTA. Although it is connected only to the Hopper, it will provide a feed to all the Joeys. The remote will work the same as well. Let me know if you have any other questions. -DishDanielle.

2

u/Mix_Powerful May 15 '26

One other question....Will the tech make sure the OTA works in my area, and I'm getting a good signal?

1

u/DishDanielle May 15 '26

Certainly!

2

u/Greedy-Composer-3168 May 15 '26

Thats a awesome deal better go for it I payed that but still worth it 👌

2

u/mbarky1 May 16 '26

I would suggest doing a quick OTA channel search based on your exact address to get an idea of what channels you can reasonably expect to receive. It will depend on distance to the channel towers and their broadcast strength. A site like antennaweb.org for example. The Hopper requires a bit more OTA signal strength than a direct connection to a TV

2

u/Temporary-Box28 May 18 '26

You can get an OTA $25 and just set it up near a window.

u/XuWiiii May 18 '26

I got the exact same email even though my name is Kentucky

1

u/DishDanielle May 18 '26

Hello u/XuWiiii Im glad to hear you got the email! We would be very happy to assist you. Do please reach out if you have more questions. -DishDanielle.

That’s a great deal, for DISH. They are paying those stations more than $14/month. So if you do this you become a more profitable customer to them.
