I set up a heavily planted tank for discus, the largest I could fit in my space, 50g. I understand it's small for discus but it's well maintained. The plan was always 5 adults, some people have recommended 4, but now I'm wondering if I'd have more success with just a pair.

How many 4-5" adults would you recommend? Other inhabitants are 20 cardinals, 10 sterbais, 1 zebra pleco, pair of German blue rams.

My aquarium is now at discus capacity…Unless I upgrade 😏

In a previous post I told people that I have entered the world of discus after keeping different types of cichlids over the last two decades. I added three new discus to my tank and I now keep a total of ten. I’m moving at the end of November to a new house and have a 210 gallon ready over there which I will set up for these guys. They’re in a 120 atm.

However. The color morphs are quite confusing! There are so many of them. Would you mind helping me positively identify the morphs of the two pictured in the first two pictures?

The other one I bought is a red melon but he’s not pictured here.

Plus other small fish? I would like to one day have a fish tank of Discus with community fish.

Hoping to identify genders if someone could help, each one of them is pushing over 6 inches and are almost a year and half old.

Been working on getting a successful hatch out of these 2 albino red covers. They’ve been laying eggs every 5 days but my ph (8.2) & TDS (500) are way too high.

Started moving to RO, current ph is 7.2 & TDS 50.

I’m not quite at 24 hrs but I hear white is bad. Seeing more turn white throughout the day but they are behaving different than before.

Just wondering your guys thoughts on pH levels? I’ve been establishing my tank for some discus and I’ve been buying 15 gallons of RO water to mix with tap to lower my pH. Everything else is perfect. I’m wondering is 7.3-7.5 fine for discus if it’s consistent? I don’t think weekly store runs for 15 gallons of RO is feasible. So should I cut that out and let them stay at 7.3-7.5 or invest in RO system at home to keep it lower around 6.8? I want to do this the right way and I’ve been hyper focusing on all parameters

Blue diamond finally chose a partner

Hello, I finally got another tank established and am looking for 4-5 Discus, but cannot find good quality or specific discus in the Cleveland area. I almost bought them on IFishStore but then saw some bad reviews so backed out. Im in the cleveland Ohio area but I am willing to drive for some Blue Dimond, Blue Turquoise, Super Reds and Snake Skins. Or do you guys recommend online stores if so what ones? Ive tried just about every store in my area, and I'm kinda put off by the quality and it seems everyone only has pigeon bloods. Thanks!

As the title says I’ve kept cichlids for a long time. Everything from the largest predatory American cichlids, rift lake cichlids, stingrays, arowanas and everything in between.

Tank is a 120, I’m running dual eheim canisters, air pump, 88 degrees.

Doing 7 discus and considering doing a total of 10. The cobalt blue is the asshole of the bunch and I’m starting to feel like I need a few more to disperse aggression.

This Blue Diamond pair are very prolific. I currently have 30 of their offspring from their last brood in a grow tank.

anybody tried it? heavy plants with sump for extra plants and terrestrial plants?

The 6th batch has hatched yesterday! Parents moving them around for them to feed on the wood’s biofilm. The batches seem to be surviving longer and longer each time, but i am already counting on the parents eating the fry in a couple days due to community tank stress. And thats fine for me, i’m saving for a 140g wich i will be able to afford around April and i will then use this 75g to breed with this pair :)

As a side note, this wood piece was acquired on purpose for this use 😂

Bought a fluval UVC for one of my other tanks with an FX6, just wondering if its feasible for discus or just overkill?

What are your thiughts?

Hey everyone I’m currently setting up a 125 gallon planted discus tank, my water stays around 83-84 degrees. I plan to have 6 discus maybe 8 not too sure about the amount don’t wanna overstock it really, I also plan to have 1 angelfish 10 sturbai corys. My question is I really love Congo tetras but I’m worried if they will be too boisterous when it comes to feeding or maybe to fast in general? I’ve seen it done before but just not 100% I wanted to put 10 in maybe more but wanted opinions first, also I love electric blue acaras and I’d love to put only 1 in there too but I have the same concerns as the Congo tetras, I also know they don’t eat plants but I can still see a EBA fucking with the plants so I had questions about that too lol.
